Winsor & Newton Professional Cotton Canvas, 8" x 10" Deep Edge

I really don't have time for this disappointment. I've used these materials before and was happy with Winsor & Newton. I really didn't expect to get something with a pressure crease and two swipes of dirt across the surface! What happened!? It was wrapped AFTER it got dirty!? So bizarre. I have a portrait to paint, folks. I don't have time to go shopping; I needed quality sent to my door and thought that's what I was paying for here.

I bought 3 linen canvases, 2 30x40"and 1 24x36", this review is for the 2 30x40"Product: These canvas are really high quality stuff, everything about them is the best you can get.Shipping and handling: something went wrong here with both canvasses that were shipped separately. Of course the damage is not in the main surface, and those minor scratches and dents to the borders can be easily fixed with some gesso, but this defeats the purpose and practicality of purchasing a stretched and pre-primed canvas.I have to say the boxes they came in are pretty good, and there were no dents in the packaging boxes themselves, so I can only assume the canvas were already damaged before being packed and shipped. I love this brand and those canvasses are really amazing, but I'm not sure I can recommend buying from here.

This canvas is slated for an important commission. I just received it today and the canvas was loose. I placed the screw-type "key corners" (a Winsor & Newton product) in the corners and screwed them in. The canvas still hits the wood bracers and therefore, when paint is applied, I'm certain there will be a line.But the other thing that bothers me is the finish. There are spots around the edges where the gesso is missing. Also the gesso itself appears to be "plastic-like" -- not like a normal gesso one would apply.All in all, given the "Professional Linen Canvas" marketing, I would hardly say this is a professional product.

2 of 4 canvases had tiny spots on them. It wouldn’t have been an issue if I was painting over them, but since I was lettering and leaving the background white it was a problem.

There is a small open line on the back that is supposed to slide with only a finger nail inserted into the open line in order to make the plastic pro-stretcher fit the corners of the canvas. It does not work. It does not move. It does not change the size of the pro-stretcher. I have tried using palette spatulas to move the pro-stretcher. Nothing works to make the pro-stretcher fit my canvas. I am extremely disappointed.

I can't say enough good things. The linen quality is amazing. It's nicely primed on well built solid pine stretcher bars.But my heart skipped a beat when I saw how Amazon shipped such an expensive product in a PLASTIC BAG.The surface was slightly dented, but nothing a bit of warm water wouldn't fix.

I read someone else had the same issue but I didn’t believe them. Believe US!!! Despite it being wrapped, the canvas underneath the wrapping is dirty!!!!!! Not the part where the wrapping was damaged, but other places where the wrapping was intact! How? It must be dirty before it was wrapped! I returned mine!

I love painting on linen compared to cotton, and the 12x12” size and up come with nice plastic stretchers. It’s not the best linen canvas but FAR batter than the flimsy student grade linen canvases you can find.

Winsor and Newton professional canvasses are of high quality, and the best thing is their 'stretcher' system. SAA pricing is very good with quick delivery.

Arrived well before the estimated date. In excellent condition. Will be back for more. Great quality.
