A well written book
A well written book easy to read and understand, well worth the money. It is great for anyone starting out in photography or as a memory jogger for the more advanced photographer.

Misses the mark for the demographic
The structure of the book is slightly muddled. Some of his explanations aren't very easy to understand, he's not very good at simplifying information into a parcel that's easy to process, this will of course be subjective to some degree. A good book for beginners that are fast learners and are good at understanding a slightly overly academically minded explanation, or for some intermediates. I've read other short tutorial books that are much better for getting you out there and shooting but dont have the same depth of explantion, I think this a good thing as overcrowding your mind at the beginning isn't helpful or confidence inspiring.

Mastering Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO and Exposure
This book really did it for me . Finally allowing me to become the master of my camera and made me realise that for so many years I had been its slave - hitherto I had relied on using the camera's AUTO settings. Now having read this book and beginning to understand Aperture Shutter Speed ISO and Exposre it has unlocked a whole new world of pleasure and enthusiasm. Truly one of the best books I have bought in a long time.

Al Judge, author or photography master? I say both, I have read a couple of his other books and they are all the best of the best. This book, Mastering Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO and Exposure has taught me more than the college-level photography course I took over a year ago. This book should be the textbook for those courses. I was still unclear about many aspects of photography until I found this book. Of course, I took better pictures but I wanted to know what made them better. We can always better ourselves but if we don't know why or how, then we have limits. Al Judge takes away those limits and explains to the reader, very clearly, what kind of effect a certain technique or just a slight change would make to the final product. My pictures always seemed a bit "noisy", but by making better sense of ISO speed, Al has taught me how to correct that problem in such a way that I could actually explain it to someone else. I think that is the best way to judge a book, not just by how you interpret the information, but how you can relay that information to someone else. You can go through and read all of the reviews you want, or you can just buy the book and start taking better pictures right away.

I needed to get my head around the different SLR camera elements (aperture, shutter etc) that are needed to take a good picture as i struggled to get good photos. This book put it into terms that I could understand and and gave me the initial tools to allow me to take photos that looked natural and I was also able to take them reasonably quickly. I was doing this on a family holiday and I wound up with some excellent photos that didn't impact on time with the family. I will be reading it again as there is a lot to learn from it and it isn't a long read. Nice work.
