Q: Does it have a hard top lid or soft top?

The lid on the jar was the hard one. I actually purchased the softer one after. I found that the hard cover didn't stay in place when you blended some things.

Q: How many HP does it have?

Don't know, but it will out perform any non commercial blender, and probably most commercial units as well! Best I've used ever!
