Dose this pipe need screens?

I am still a novice pipe smoker, and this is my first pipe. I am not currently using a screen. Given the long, curved stem on this pipe, it seems less likely that an ember would make it to your mouth, which is what the screen would prevent. So, smokers choice I suppose.
