Remember, this is a vermouth replacement, not gin!!
Wow, wow! 😋 I have been acquiring and giving different zero-proof (non-alcoholic) substitutes a real try and this dry vermouth aperitif replacement is amazing. Up until this option, I have been discouraged by so many of the offerings out there. But these guys have clearly put in the work. This is as close to the real flavor and mouthfeel as I have experienced, yet. So much so that it very well passes in your dry martini cocktail. I have yet to find a good gin replacement, though. At least I can use this in place of real vermouth when mixing with real gin (until a decent gin replacement is made!). Exxxcccceeellleeennntttt job, Lyre!! Well done!!

Tastes like ant spray
I wanted to like this product. The Lyres version of vermouth tastes like it has insecticide in it. I grew up in the 60/70’s and it reminds me of the taste of the food we ate on a picnic after my mother sprayed the area with ant spray. The overspray always somehow tainted the food and this stuff reminds me of that taste. What a waste of money. There is nothing that can be added to it that would mask that taste. I am very disappointed.

Helpful vermouth alternative
I use far more than 1/2 an ounce of this, maybe 1:1 to chardonnay to cut the acidity and alcohol in regular chardonnay. If you are making a martini, it's better to use at least an ounce of real gin and the other ounce AF gin, otherwise the drink won't be very satisfying. Or just don't drink any alcohol for a month, then you won't remember how good a real martini is. This mixes well will a variety of AF and regular spirits to make interesting mock or half-cocked tails. Be wary of ordering AF spirits in the winter, I have had them arrive nearly frozen. They are very considerate to offer to your guests as a choice. Remember, they are the ones who have to drive home, not you. I wish these were sold through an ABC store or drug store, instead of having to buy on Amazon where I might get a bottle someone has returned or that might get damaged in shipment. The Lyre bottles are beautiful.

Not A Flavor Substitute
Purchased this based on some reviewers ratings but it turned out to be a waste of money. Gin substitute tastes like the smell of Pine Sol. Vermouth substitute tastes nothing like Vermouth and is unpleasantly bitter. Both went down the drain as did the $ I spent to obtain them. SAVE your money- don’t purchase unless you have non- functioning taste buds.

Makes great cocktails - no compromise!
I loved that this is a product that helps me enjoy a cocktail without compromise. At a time when I am choosing to reduce my alcohol consumption, it’s a really excellent alternative to vermouth when I want a martini - shaken OR stirred! Also the fact that choosing this instead of the classic vermouth cuts down on calories is a great little side benefit! Give it a try!

Driest of the ones I've tried so far, and drinkable, but lacking complexity.
Grape and lime on the nose coming through as more lime and bitterness in taste for Lyre's Apertif Dry. Certainly dry, however, as it is tart and bitter with no real sweetness to speak of. This may work better than, say, Roots Divino Apertif Bianco if you wish to be sure you have a truly dry vermouth so as not to add any sweetness from that direction, but it doesn't seem to carry any floral or herbal notes that I would expect from a vermouth, either, mostly just tart and bitter so if you prefer some of that extra complexity you might consider something else or just use this and add a few dashes of an appropriate bitter to the drink to help punch it up.

A Favorite!
Since we are on a non-alcoholic wave at the moment, we came across Lyre's. They offer by far the most versatile base options. This is one we use for e.g. "(NON) Gin & Tonic" drinks. All we add are a few juniper berries, a splash of lime or lemon and then we top it off with Zevia tonic water and ice which is always an absolute treat!

Think again . . .
Strictly from my viewpoint: I knew it might take getting use to but, I couldn’t get past the second attempt to use it in a martini - I don’t know if it was the alcohol free vermouth or the free spirit gin that made the drink intolerable. I’m not even sure if it’s healthy to consume. The makers of this alternative need to head back to the drawing board and refine their product.
