Following the instructions in the manual and make sure the setting is on BOLD!!! **Q: How do I open the lid far enough when pouring water in to rest the lip for the entire pour?** A: The simple answer is that you can't. The lid just doesn't open far enough to pour all of the water from the carafe into the reservoir. I found a workaround that involves pouring the last amount of water into the trough next to the opening for the reservoir. **Q: Does this not come with the filter?** A: Ours DID come with a gold permanent filter. You can use paper filters instead if you like.
