Christian Meditation: Entering the Mind of Christ

I am always looking for ways to help me to sleep.I try & try with mediation but my brain just laughs at me.I can hear it mocking "Silly person, why relax when there's so much to do"Then the lightbulb went off.Prayer is the only time my brain concedes so let's see what I can find and, Voila I find this audio book.It's fascinating & relaxing at the same time.I love how the author shares his life & journey and reflects with some of my favorite spiritual masters like Thomas Merton.I'd love to tell you more but it has pulled me into such a meditative state, it's been 3 weeks and I keep listening to it from the beginning again.

Drawing upon his experience as a novice for five years under Thomas Merton as well as the classics of the Christian contemplative tradition James Finley provides an extensive presentation on the practice and underlying theology of Christian meditation. There are 12 talks averaging about 40 minutes each providing a general overview of meditation practice in a style which is itself meditative in tone. He describe in detail the components of Presence, Openness, and Awareness, and the disciplines of daily practice, breath, sitting posture that with dedication and divine grace can open our hearts into the Mind of Christ. Though he writes in the Christian tradition, his practice shares much with Mindfulness meditation and its focus on being in the present moment. For those who feel called in these challenging times to the practice of contemplative prayer James Finley is a trustworthy guide.
