Wish I had bought this sooner
My 4 year old absolutely hates drawing and colouring and always has done, so trying to encourage him to trace shapes and start to write has been a challenge. I wanted to try to prepare him for school as much as I can as I know writing is likely something he will struggle with due to not wanting to practice and I think it will probably frustrate him. This little book has been brilliant. Each page is really well thought out with different activities - it starts with lines and shapes before moving onto letters and has things line mazes, colouring, tracing. At the bottom of every double page is a smiley face to colour in to say you’ve completed it but we’ve been using stickers instead. We do a double page a day. My son is feeling really proud when he has completed a task and I was really surprised it was keeping his attention as he normally has no patience for it and ends up scribbling. In the last week since I’ve had it, he’s done the most drawing/writing practice I think I’ve ever seen him do! My only negative is that the pages are really quite thin so on the ones that don’t have full colour backgrounds you can see through the pages. Some of the guidelines are quite light as well so the combination of this with the see through pages has confused my son a couple of times as he was following the lines from the other side without realising. I had to trace over with a pastel highlighter so he could follow my guideline instead but this isn’t on every page so for the price I can’t complain!

My son has a delay in fine motor skills so we have been doing a short session each day of writing and colouring using this book. I like that it also helps him learn his phonics. My only complaint is that the activities are quite similar and sort of repetitive in a way.
