Q: Can i use this to make a layer at bottom of pots to cover drain holes for better drainage?

I suggest u to use inverted earthen diyas or thikri as this doesn't allow mitti to drain out while watering n then scatter these wood charcoal pieces to form 1inch layer. This charcoal pieces reduce the chance of root rot due to overwatering.

Q: Can i use this for orchids? Do i need to treat the charcoal in any way before using it

Its natural charcoal. no need to treat special unless your application and use any special.

Every good buy. There is combination of 2 inches and less burnt wood charcoal. The quantity is good enough as wood charcoal weights less so u get good quantity.
