Ultimate DirectionMountain Vest 5

Light and roomy
Really like the lightness and large capacity. Use it for longer runs and all day hikes. Can fit plenty of water snacks and even a light jacket. Have had a few months and happy with durability. I don’t like the water bottles because when they are empty they lean out of the pouch awkwardly. Also read reviews of them leaking. Mine have not leaked but made me nervous on longer day hikes when water not available. Instead I use regular water bottles (pictures) which fit into the pouches nicely and are easy to remove and replace when running. So overall still 5 stars even though don’t like the bottles

Ultimate Direction saves the Day!
So I tried 2 Nathan Sports vests and returned each before trying this upgraded UD pack. I had the previous Mountain Pack (still do actually), but this thing fits so much better!I’m picky because I’m a normal sized human and I like to carry Xamount of gear on hikes and runs.It arrived today - which was 6 days ahead of the expected arrival...6!!I put it on in a regular t-shirt and this UD pack fit so well. Ultimate Direction once again has provided the normal human an option for high quality gear. Thanks - sincerely.

For me this vest is very comfortable and reliable (durable) and holds everything I need

Cord (tensor) on the back broke!
A good light weight vest maybe for OK for “short” ultras (30miles) but definitely not good for longer distances. Unfortunately mine broke after 5 months of use. The “Cinch 2.0” cord that adjusts the back tension broke in the middle of a training trail run and 3 weeks before my R2R2R. I am gonna try to get the cord from UD directly. I used Nathan bag packs for 10 yeas and never had a problem. Gave UD a try and I am not happy!** Update after contacting Ultimate Direction **Great customer service. Answered my email right away and the following day they shipped to me 5ft of the Cinch 2.0 cord to repair the vest.I updated from 3 to 4 stars after this great response from UD however you dont expect a brand new $160 ultra running vest to break after 20+ runs.Actually the Cinch 2.0 system gets lose after a few miles and I need to constantly pull it tight which may have stressed the cord.As I said this is a good running vest for “short” ultras (30miles) and aid stations and support on the run. I will never take this vest to a solo/ self supported long run (50,100 miler)

Material wear though on draw cord of bottle pouch.
I have had this vest for a month, it maybe has 200 hundred miles use and already the material around the pouch that holds the water bottle is wearing through from the draw cord. My last Ultimate lasted four years before wear and tear started showing! Ultimate needs to rethink their quality.

Stayed put during an ultra run and was very comfortable.
