Scans all chips flawlessly! - I was a bit skeptical when I first bought this product. This was mostly because the microchip reader I was told to buy was an industrial, however, that one was sold out at the time, so I purchased this one. I opened the box, put in the battery, and immediately scanned my animals. It worked for microchips over 14 years of age and as little as a few weeks. I further confirmed this when I went to the municipal shelter. It works fast and accurately. I am confident that it will work on almost all, if not all chips out there. I would recommend this scanner if you want an all-around good product/good value! Review: Replacement rechargeable batteries are hard to find. - I love this scanner! Works well, seems to work everytime. The beeper is not loud enough for me but I do have hearing loss. The only trouble I find is that I cannot find more rechargeable batteries with a USB port. I would like to have a spare. I would have purchased a Hero pocket reader to fit in my purse but wasn't sure if it would be the same quality. ## Features - UNIVERSAL MICROCHIP COMPATIBILITY: Reads all ISO microchips plus 9-, 10-, and 15-digit chips from any brand. No idea if any of those are Avid, but we first bought a cheaper one (about $50) and it wouldn't read the Home Again chip or the 10-digit 24 Pet Watch chip. **Q: Will this work with Avid and Home Again?** A: Yes. Our Hero Advanced Microchip Reader will read all Avid and Home Again microchips. **Q: Is it possible to adjust the volume of the beep? It's so loud it frightens away the cats I'm trying to scan.** A: The beep on Hero™ is not adjustable; however, here are a couple tips that may make scanning for a microchip more successful. • Start at the animal’s head, and scan side-to-side all the way to the tail, making several passes over each area. • If scanning several animals, using Bluetooth, gives Hero™ the power to scan a chip and instantly send it to your waiting Bluetooth device. Feel free to reach out to one of our Pet Professionals available by phone for tips specific to your animal or pet anytime! **Q: Does it give the temperature info for chips that have the ability to tell the animals temperature?** A: No, the Hero™ scanner does not display the animal temperature, but will display the chip number. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is a little pricey, but well worth the money! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Must have!!! *by C***E on June 9, 2025* Love love love this product. I love the Bluetooth feature as scanning a homeless cat has to be subtle and quick at the same time and having the chip go directly to my phone helps a lot. It also can pick the chip up at times a few inches away which is also helpful. I've had this for years as I got tired of always having to borrow one while I was on my own hunt for my trapped and dumped furr child. I've never had to change the battery either! Battery life great! It's super durable! Definitely came to me highly recommend and it's completely worth the money!. I love the case it comes with also. ## Frequently Bought Together - Hero Pet Microchip Reader, Bluetooth, Includes Case and Test Chip - RAPICCA Animal Handling Gloves Bite Proof Reinforced Leather Padding Dog,Cat Scratch,Bird Handling Falconry Gloves Grabbing,Reptile Squirrel Snake Bite 22in Grey-Black --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.nz/products/212052462-hero-universal-microchip-scanner-for-iso-and-non-iso-pet](https://www.desertcart.nz/products/212052462-hero-universal-microchip-scanner-for-iso-and-non-iso-pet) --- *Product available on Desertcart New Zealand* *Store origin: NZ* *Last updated: 2026-10-11*
