Very good DVDs, excellent value, and great Amazon Customer Service
DVD-R disks are fine. The spindle case is a little thin, and the first delivery arrived damaged. However, the Amazon replacement came almost instantly, and they removed all original charges. Returning the damaged item was unbelievably easy and fast. (No smartphone needed.) I did indeed buy some additional items at the return location (I chose Whole Foods). I had indicated on Amazon's return questionnaire that it was not an important aspect of the return-location choice, so I'll have to rethink that! In summary, the product is fine; the replacement came almost instantly, and Amazon's customer service was top notch!

A superior product
I have used a about 200 of these DVD's with only about a 2% failure rate. Previously I had ordered Sony printable DVD's because of their good ratings by reviewers and because of my own good experience with Sony products. With the Sony DVD's I had about a 25% failure rate. I do print labels on my DVD's, using an Epson Artisan 835 and Artisan 50 printers (both excellent machines, the 835 a little more convenient when printing several of the same DVD or CD) and I get excellent results. The Verbatim 97016 printable DVD's are excellent in all respects. Interestingly, the old 5.25 inch floppy disks sold under the Verbatim label in the late 70's and early 80's were also superior products. Regarding the high failure rate reported by one reviewer of non-spooled blank DVD's, my experience indicates that his problems may stem from the VERY poor packing CONSISTENTLY done by the people sending them out. I use quite a few CD's and DVD's of various types, and the padding of packages is always unbelievably bad. When ordering several types of disks in a single order I have had more than 1/3 of the disks rendered unusable. I suggest ordering one package per order. Since they have only the sides of the box to bang against they suffer less damage though the padding they used does little to impede the included package from bouncing around in the package. I suspect that the two DVD's that failed in the last package did so as the result of shipping damage despite it was in an order by itself. Since I wrote the above, I have started using these same DVD's that come on spindles, packed 50 to a spindle. I have used many hundreds of them and have had only one instance of damage to a shipment. They are still badly packaged, but the spindle packing protects them. Other than that one shipment, I have never received a defective DVD. I highly recommend the spindled versions. 7/20/14 Update. Because the 100 disk pack is less expensive, and since I am am an Amazon prime member, I have again started ordering the that size, one at a time. I found that if the disks were sent by themselves, they would usually arrive undamaged -- when two or more of them are together, they bang against each other consistently causing damage to those disks at the top and bottom of the pack. Much to my surprise, MY LAST ORDER ARRIVED WELL PACKED: The disk pack was wrapped all around in bubble wrap and the space in the box was totally filled with Blister wrap. I am so encouraged that on my next order, I am going to order two or three at a time.

They work
Despite being shipped in a bag, the plastic was damaged so the disc top doesn't lock. The disc's work perfectly.

Flawless burning & printing
My clients don't ask for DVDs much anymore - but when they do, I don't have time to waste on bad media. These have not failed me yet. I am able to burn to the Data Life Plus disc from my iMac using an LG external DVD player/recorder without any trouble. I then put the disc into my Canon Pixma Pro 100 and print directly to the disc surface. I've not experienced the ink drying issues mentioned. These printable discs allow me to give my clients a much more finished looking product than if I just printed to a stick-on label.

Great item but some will fail.
These are great when they work. But I have had some in the batches that my equipment would not recognize. Even had one that the defect was visible. The last batch, most were incompatible, were not recognized by my machines, failed while recording data, or failed to finalize and close the disc. Still, this is the best and safest one on the market for the price but sometimes will will get a dud or two.

Here's my experience with burning 4 of these discs: Hardware & Software used: LG Slim Portable DVD Writer external USB 2 HP 14Q laptop with 8 GM RAM & NVMe M.2 SSD Intel Core i3-7020u 4 discs burnt using ImgBurn on Windows 10 x64 Write/Read Speeds: Data burnt: About 4GB in 3 files Write speed: 8x set automatically by ImgBurn 3.6x to 7x reported by ImgBurn 4 GB files burnt in 10 minutes Read speed of burnt discs: 4MB/s to 8MB/s in copying 4GB from disc to SSD over USB 2 4x to 6x in verification by ImgBurn The upper surface has a paper like layer (but not paper, I think) with a 'matte' feel. I don't have a disc printer, so have no clue how well it prints. But OHP marker pen writes fine on it. Manufacturer: According to DigitalFAQ website, a real DVD under the branding label is what mattters. DVD Identifier reported this as MCC 03RG20 manufactured by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp., which is rated as "1st Class Blank DVD Media/Archival Grade Discs" by DigitalFAQ and are pretty well spoken of at other websites too. On the downside, according to DigitalFAQ, MCC 03RG20 discs are manudfactured in Sheng Wang, other small Chinese and Taiwanese factories :( According to the spindle label, its manufactured by Verbatim (Honkong) Ltd., Singapore branch, but that's the beauty of company law for you, with layers upon layers of corporate veils, before you find the real owner! How good it is for archival, is something only time will tell, but it's been a great disc so far in burning and reading, made by the 'them'; your call!
