Plato's Apology

This is a must read. I didn't get it at first. I thought Plato was apologizing. and then they killed him. At first I said wow, that happened to Plato too,they did that to Socrates... no... it was Plato writing the story about Socrates's trial . Some discussion has be made regarding the possibility that Socrates was Plato, or that Socrates was just made up by Plato .I don't know ,it was so long ago in Greece, They do have old ruins there. but I've never been. I've been to Rome , they have ruins there too, I was robbed by a mob in the ruins. It is mandatory reading Most wont read it cause you can watch the movie on YouTube. This is where the boys are separated from the men, and the girls from the women .

The book itself is wonderful. The publisher though and the book it comes with are unusual. The book is thin and shaped irregularly..

This is an amazing and absolutely beautiful read. Plato narrates the events being Socrates, when Socrates was on trial for blasphemy. Well translated, it is not a difficult read. It entices one to think about ethics and social hierarchies. I recommend this book whole heartedly.

Very short read, but highly revealing of Socrates' character.

Short read and a great book. Arrived in good condition.

If your into philosophy, this is perfect. A slightly different side of the personality of Socrates as depicted by Plato. I can only hope it truly was a depiction of his character.

1 star for my own stupidity and to hopefully help someone in the future . Its only about 19 pages long . Do not buy this it is really a let down for 8 bucks .

I had to read this book for a test in my class. You might have to have your computer ready so that you can understand what is going on. You can get lost when reading this book.

The main advantage of reading Plato, Thucydides, Aristotle et al is that you have to read everything at least three times, simply to understand what is actually being said. Once you get to grips with the idioms, you find yourself transported back to Ancient Greece where you finally discover that hardly anything has changed really and that humans are generally no better now than they were then. Socrates was right,we know nothing…if only we were humble enough to admit it.

I am pretty unhappy about this purchase. Of course, Plato is worth reading, but Amazon should be ashamed of selling this book for seven quid. It looks like a photocopied leaflet. It is in English but nowhere does it say who did the translation. If I had studied the particulars I could have seen that the format was unorthodox and it was only 34 pages. But I made the mistake of assuming that Amazon wouldn't sell me a total load of rubbish. I was wrong. I guess I am so fed up because I have been scammed by Amazon and that makes me feel stupid. Don't buy this version. Get a second hand Penguin copy. And never trust Amazon.
