The button is just to turn on the tester. It's supposed to work after that, and it will beep when is close to voltage. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ good great testing device *by W***E on June 11, 2024* testing electricty ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Electric wire power *by A***R on May 30, 2024* Seems to be almost the same as what I thought except these two new ones I bought was not exactly like the old one I had which was presented when I ordered it except these do look heavy duty and does have a light that goes on which is a big plus so yes, I do recommend these electrical power testers ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best greenlee tick tester so far *by J***P on April 23, 2011* This is my second GT-12 so far. I used to use the GT-11s and always hated the twist top to turn the tester on, which would eventually fall off. The addition of the push button makes this a much nicer tester. the only complaint i have about these is that the battery cover feels flimsy, you can push on it and feel it slide sideways. My previous GT-12 never lost the cover but it feels like a potential issue for those of us who use these often.
