Makes litter box maintenace much less of a chore
Litter Genie is a cat litter disposal system that makes is easier and more convenient to scoop your cat's litter box frequently. More frequent scooping keeps litter box smells to a minimum which, in turn, makes it less likely that your cat will poop or pee somewhere outside the litter box. The way it works is this: You take a Litter Genie refill, which is basically a very long tube of plastic that is scrunched up into a plastic holder, and install it under the snap down refill holder (which is very much like a toilet seat with a lid.) There are directions included with the Litter Genie that are really good and show you exactly how to install the refill. You will be pulling down at least a foot of the film and then tying a knot in the bottom. Once you get the refill part installed, here's how to use it. When you're ready to scoop your cat's litter box, open the top lid. Scoop the poo and clumped litter into the toilet seat-like opening. When the upper area becomes full, grasp the plastic flange that is located on the front toward the middle and push down on the little button (located in the flange) while pulling the flange toward you. If you look through the top opening, you will see that pulling the flange releases the soiled litter into the bottom area of the Litter Genie. When it has passed through to the bottom, release the flange and the separator will snap back into place. This separator serves as an odor barrier so that days worth of dirty litter can be stored in the Genie without the foul smell. When the bottom becomes full, you'll need to empty it. The way you go this is to push the button on the middle front of the Genie that is located just beneath where the Genie is divided in half. Pushing the button releases the top half of the Genie so you can fold it back. You can then see the full plastic bag at the bottom. Just pull down more film from the top and then slide it into the cutter located just above the hinge in the back. It is clearly marker CUTTER. You want to be sure to leave enough film at the top of the full bag after you cut so that you can easily tie a knot to close it for disposal. Tie the knot and then lift the full bag out of the Genie. Finally, pull down about a foot of fresh film and tie a knot at the bottom. That's it. The Litter Genie comes with the Genie itself, one refill, one litter scoop, the scoop holder you hang off the side of the Genie and the instruction manual. The scoop is a good quality, plastic one but I already have a metal scoop I really like and it fits perfectly in the holder. I bought a Litter Genie a couple of years ago for my daughter, who had 3 cats at the time. She lives in a city where they have banned the plastic grocery bags, which she had previously been using. This was such a huge improvement for them over the old method because one of her cats had a health issue that caused him to make the smelliest poo - several times a day. Litter Genie made it easy to scoop immediately after he pooped and it truly kept the smell confined to the bottom of the Genie. They are still using it every day and it still performs great. I have 5 cats and I thought one Genie wouldn't be able to keep up with all of the daily waste. Then someone mentioned the silver one was on sale for ~$10, so I bought 3 for my house. (It's more of a battleship grey color than silver.) I keep one downstairs where I have 2 litter boxes and I keep the other two upstairs, where I have 4 litter boxes. This is working very well for me. With 3 Genies, I'm only having to empty them about once a week. Of course, the biggest expense is the refills. Personally, I think they are way overpriced - kinda like ink cartridges for printers. So this is a major thing you want to consider before buying Litter Genie. Looking for them on sale and on eBay and buying whenever you find a good deal can mitigate the costs. Also, you CAN use tall kitchen trash bags as a substitute for the refills. It does work and the Genie still keeps the smells trapped in the bottom, but it's not quite as convenient. Still, I like knowing I can do this just in case I run out of Genie refills and haven't ordered more. If you have a litter box in your house that must be scooped, you might like the Litter Genie as much as I do.

Great Product, could be more sturdy
I am adding this edit THREE YEARS after purchasing this item. I thought it was flimsy and wouldn't last long. WRONG! It is still going strong, and it's such a wonderful thing! Don't hesitate to buy! I get 9 bags from a bag cartridge. Now I only have one cat and empty it every two weeks, so a cartridge lasts over 4 months. No odor. Also, I switched to The Worlds Best Cat Litter, made of corn. Works great at odor control, clumping, and very little dust. My original review follows: I don't know if there is anything I can add, not already said by the many reviewers. I have two indoor-only cats, one huge male and a little female. As soon as I adopted these two, we were overwhelmed with litter box smell even though I was scooping multiple times a day and taking the scoops outside to the trash (a lot of trips!) I set about finding a solution. The first one was switching from perfumed Scoopaway litter to Fresh Step Unscented Odor Shield clumping litter with carbon and plant extracts (not the multi-cat one). Right away, the odor was just gone! I don't know how well the other Fresh Step varieties work. This one was hard to find, but recommended to me by an animal shelter volunteer and she was so right! (It's dusty, but small price to pay for NO odor.) Then I ordered the Litter Genie Plus and my life got so much easier! It works great, just as advertised.. easy to set up and use, has only an 8" square "footprint" and holds all the clumps for my two cats for a full week. I know the refills are not cheap, but part of the reason this works is that the plastic in them is specially made to hold in the odor and it does! I'm not sure how many bags are in a refill. I'm on the 4th bag now. I bought a pack of 6 refill cartridges; look for bargains! My suggestion for the manufacturer: Make the Litter Genie more sturdy and of heavier material, even if it adds a few dollars to the price. It has a bit of a flimsy feel that bothers me a little. And for users, don't scoop TOO often. If you don't give the litter time to absorb the moisture from the urine and feces, they will stick to the bag when you dump them in, and won't want to fall down into the receptacle. I was scooping 4 or 5 times a day, now added a second litter box and scoop twice a day. The system is all working great. When and if the flimsy Genie wears out, I'll just buy another.

NEW CAT OWNERS BUY THIS
The Litter Genie Plus has made managing my cat’s litter box so much easier. It seals away odors incredibly well, and the pail design keeps everything contained without any fuss. The refill system is simple to use and lasts longer than I expected, which makes it convenient and cost effective. I also appreciate how compact the pail is because it fits neatly beside the litter box without taking up much space. Emptying it is quick and mess free, and the silver color looks clean and modern. This is one of those products that makes pet care noticeably smoother and I am very happy with it.

Litter Genie grants all three wishes: odor control, convenience, and quality!
I have 2 cats, sharing one litter box, and boy do they leave a lot of, uh, "treasures". I got the Litter Genie so I don't have to get blasted in the face with the foulest of smells whenever I open the trash can. This thing does the job well, and holds a good amount of "treasure" before I have to dump the booty. And I like how you can tie off the bag at whatever length you like. My biggest gripe is the lid doesn't latch closed, so if the cats are getting raucous and bump it over, it'll just fly open and potentially spill whatever bits are inside. Also, the scoop is so-so. I use clumping clay litter, and the teeny-tiny clumps of pee can slip through the slits. But at least it's better than nothing, and the holder comes in handy

Overall, we've been really happy with this purchase. It makes removing and keeping used kitty litter much easier and definitely reduces the awful smell, as it smartly locks the used litter inside. The bag dispenser is a super smart idea, too. My only complaint is that it probably isn't big enough! Also, the entrance at the 'neck' of the container is a little narrow for the provided scoop, which means you need a good aim and a steady hand! But overall, a really worthwhile purchase for anyone with indoor cats.

Im very disappointed, it came without the top lid or shovel. There should not be any missing parts

I impulse bought this, and thought it may be a waste of money - who needs such an expensive bin for cat poop? But it is the best thing i ever bought as a cat owner. Makes cleaning litter boxes so much easier and more convenient. Only gripe is that the branded refill cartridges are so expensive - you can buy cheap refill bags to stick in the origninal bag cartridge

What I Like - I’ve always been a huge fan of these type of litter disposal units since they’ve been a thing. After trying the other brand and having that last a long time, and also trying a Diaper Genie, I decided to try this Litter Genie Plus Pail. I was surprised at how well made it is. Functionality is top notch and it’s extremely easy to use. The refills are easy to install and there’s lots of room inside. The built in blade is always a plus and makes cutting the bag easy when it’s time to throw it out. I had no need for the scoop itself but it’s well made for plastic, but I have a metal scoop and much prefer that. A really good value and made the switch worth it to me. It works extremely well at keeping the odors of used litter inside the pail. What I Don’t Like - Nothing yet.

I really wish I didn't like this, that I could go back to a standard garbage can with any dog poop bag.... but I can't go back. I just bought my third litter genie so I can have one next to each litter station. It's just so convenient and really keeps odours locked in.
