**Q: what is the steel?**
A: The info. I got with my knifes is it's a high carbon stainless. these blades made in China holds a polish better than the old USA made But the USA made blades hold an edge better than thes new ones. Hope this helps.

A: The new ones are all made in China

**Q: Is it full tang? And how tough is it ?**
A: yes on full tang on tough it is I don't as I purchased mine for completing a old timer set of american and china made havent used it

**Q: how long can it retain an edge during hard use?**
A: much to my surprise, the old adage ,..if it sounds too good... it's a cheap light weight version now made in china. i haven't put it to the acid test yet, but i have my doubts. it looks good, but it weighs just a little over what it would if it were made of aluminum. I doubt that it will be a hard working knife.

I like the looks of  this style Bowie, mine was sharp out of the box for what I use it for, "cutting pork roast at the family picnic' . It is well built and the 10 inch blade tapers down to a fine edge and is downright scary looking. I would not use this knife for heavy cutting or bone chopping as the fine taper of the blade will ding easy. As a chef I bought this as a heavy duty kitchen knife, I can hit this on the steel  a couple times and shave with it. Overall its a good thirty dollar big knife I have a lot of fun with.

This is a nice knife for the price. The blade thickness tapers to a thin point so it is good for fine work. Full tang and Delrin handle material. Good camp knife.
