I have to admit. I felt a bit foolish buying this on a trial for our Hershey. Hershey is near 10 years old. He has hip and knee issues. He also is starting to overheat and pant quite often. He's a good ol' boy who deserves to be spoiled. He loves carpeting over hard wood, he loves dog beds over carpet, he loves the sofas over dog beds and loves king size dog beds over sofas. But I got this to see if it helps him be comfortable with that panting. The package arrived just as it should. On time, boxed appropriately and not damaged. It arrived on a hot 98 degree day here so everything about it was extremely HOT when the delivery guy driving that hot truck on a hot day handed me the package. Shortly after taking it out and laying it on the floor in front of me, I actually noticed a coolness emanating by my feet. Sure enough this pad has magical properties. It was cool to the touch. I thought perhaps I should throw this on the king size dog bed so I can use it at night. Before I could, Hershey noticed the coolness too. To my surprise, he immediately laid down on it. usually takes him some time to warm up to new beds. Not this one. Not only did he take to it right away, I noticed he stopped panting shortly after. There is an memory foam dog bed right next to this. Hershey 99.97% of the time chooses this over the other now. So Haggis and Seamus fight over the memory foam now. He licks the hell out of it. Not sure what that is about. I tried it out, wasn't bacon flavored. He loves him some bacon. But then he does lick the heck out of our leather sofa, and my legs, and Haggis ear, so his standards aren't great. But since he licks it so much I haven't had to clean it, but I'm sure just a wet towel would suffice. I will say I am fully impressed by this product and that it does maintain staying cool. It rebounds quickly to a chill after he has been on it for extended periods of times. He absolutely does love being on it. It isn't real thick so the gel isn't much of a cushion but there is enough for him. But I know he is loving the coolness, probably helps those old joints too. If you were on the fence, not sure, think it couldn't work, or is it worth it to spoil your dog, the answer to all of that is a resounding H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS YES! Do it. Do it now.

I got this mat for an aging pug with a bum ticker and a double fuzzy coat - he is hot all the time and often sleeps on our hardwood floor in the dimmest part of the house just to stay cool. I bought this mat to keep in a more communal area where he can actually see the rest of the family and socialize instead of removing himself to his "chamber" - so far he has used it a few times but it isn't something that he's gravitating to, nor do my other pugs with shorter hair seem that interested. Not sure if it's the cooling effect itself or the thinness of the mat or what - I can't exactly ask them - but they just haven't taken to it. When I do find one using it they seem comfortable enough so I'm not sure what the problem is. Size-wise it's good - my old guy can sprawl all the way out and have his whole body on the mat, and two of them can belly-sleep side by side and still be on the mat. (I have been blessed with overly large pugs, too - tall and heavy, about 28 lbs each, which is huge for the breed.) The mat definitely starts to cool right away; I can feel it when I step on it barefooted. Overall the product is good and works as intended , I apparently just have defective dogs who don't appreciate it. :/

We got this as our dog has never dealt well with the heat, despite being a kelpie, and now she is old we thought we'd look into what was available. Once it arrived, she was not certain about it at first, but a couple of weeks in and for the rest of summer she would sleep on it everytime, day or night. The funny thing is, summer came and went, we are in the depths of winter and even on cold nights, she still seems to like it! We have carpet everywhere, there is even actual sheep skins if she wants (and sometimes she does) but often enough she still chooses the cooling mat! That's probabaly all I need to say really.

I was a bit hesitant to get this at first due to how much more expensive it was compared to some cooling mats I could find at my local Bed Bath & Beyond. But I decided to give it a try due to all the positive feedback and helpful responses I got from my questions. First off, my dog loves it. He lays on it all the time and will fall asleep on it for hours, though it took him about a day to warm up to it XD I love that it is sectioned the way it is compared to some other mats that I got that were either only split down the middle or had no sections at all. That made the mats not only slippery, but also made the gel bunch up and not spread out evenly. I am super happy with this mat because the gel stays consistent through the whole mat and it really does stay nice and cool for my dog ^_^ Would definitely recommend this!

UPDATE *Sadly changing my review from 5 stars to 1 star, it was wonderful for 1 summer only, then the jell inside seemed to shrink and harden, no longer obsorbing heat and keeping my dog cool. For the price it should last more than one summer!! I read a lot of reviews before choosing a brand of cooling mat. I'm happy I went with this one. It's non toxic (if chewed on) which it hasn't been, it's durable (if it's punctured) which it hasn't been, the jell is in sheets rather than liquid, so it won't leak out. The surface is easily wiped down if it needs to be cleaned. It is cool to the touch, compared to its surroundings. My dog and cats took to using it within a few hours. I purchased the medium size, which is a perfect fit when Honey stretches out, she is a 35 pound Collie mix, I have added a few pics. for reference. On a side note, when I started looking, the medium size was not available on Amazon.ca, I looked on other Canadian sites and was unable to find this brand in the size I wanted, so I wrote to the company, ARF Pets via Messenger, they got back to me right away and said it would be avaiable at Amazon.ca within the next 2 weeks, and it was!! So hats off to the company 😊

Good product. Easy to clean. it is not too cold, but effective. no break.
