Tools 4611A3 External Straight Retaining Ring Pliers, 8.25-Inch

Other reviews led me to believe this was the correct tool for Ford Super Duty axle snap rings. Those reviews are all correct, and this tool was worth every penny. I bought the 9.25-inch version and had the same experience. If you are working with 2011-2016 Super Duty front axles, these pliers are the right tool for the job.

Perfect for Dana 60 hubs. After trying a couple different other pairs of snap ring pliers that didn't cut it, these worked perfectly. Took it out without issue. Can't recommend these enough.

Job: Honda Fit A/C clutch (worked great with caveats). After buying a pair of snap ring pliers from the auto parts store (they were expensive, didn’t open wide enough, and broke immediately), I came to Amazon to find something higher quality. I was encouraged when I saw it stamped Germany, hoping that the craftsmanship would be high. They didn’t disappoint. When they showed up, I gave them a squeeze and you could feel the weight and quality. They would obviously open wide enough. These are extremely well made. As one reviewer mentioned, the pins won’t fit into the holes of an OEM Honda AC Clutch snap ring but did fit perfectly into the aftermarket snap ring. This wasn’t a big deal for me, but if I absolutely needed to reuse the OE snap ring, I would have filed the pins a little bit so they would fit. Not ideal but very simple solution. EDIT: they also will not fit the smaller ring, OE or aftermarket. The smaller one is closer and easier so I made do with other tools. Bottom line: great for automotive work. If I found myself needing to do more work like this, I would buy this brand in a number of sizes and tip styles.

I had a decent set of snap ring pliers that haven't let me down in the past, but they couldn't remove a snap ring from the axle shaft of a 08 super duty Dana 60. I tried another set and broke the tip off. So I looked online and everyone said this and one other brand are necessary to be able to reach in that deep and still have the leverage for that particular snap ring. So after all the trouble I bought this and had it of in about 10 seconds. If you have an 05+ superduty I highly recommend these pliers.

The types of snap ring pliers with interchangeable tips are often too big, or too short to get into tight spaces. I needed a pair of straight-tipped, longer reach snap ring pliers to help in removing a rusted-on external snap ring holding the coil assembly of an automobile A/C electromagnetic clutch to the compressor body and in replacing the old snap ring with a new one for the new coil assembly. The Knipex pliers were up to the task, but my first OEM kit had rusty parts and a cheap snap ring which bent easily and was the wrong size for the job; I returned that kit and the second OEM kit left the critical snap ring out of the kit completely. Rather than continuing to order and return expensive kits, I measured the required dimensions of the snap ring with a micrometer and ordered several from a reputable industrial supply house. Larger external snap rings come in precise sizes and are very hard to find either on Amazon or at local auto parts stores, but if your car A/C stops coming on because of an electrical short, it's much easier to use an A/C clutch kit to fix the problem (no R134a gas is released from the compressor) than spending a lot more money having qualified professionals replace your compressor assembly and other related parts, and removing and storing the R134a gas inside a machine, as required by law, and then recharging the system when it is all put back together. But you can't replace the A/C clutch at all without the right tools, which includes having a pair of these wonderful Knipex snap ring pliers, built by German crafts men and women. I highly recommend this tool, and the other pliers of all sorts made by Knipex.

They feel sturdy and well-made. I have a pair of 90 degree knipex snap ring pliers that I used to take the snap ring off of a ford focus hub, so when I needed straight ones for a f350 hub I knew which brand to look for. It worked well enough on the f350 but I wish the handles were slightly longer for that particular application. It took two hands and a good bit of squeezing to open the snap ring far enough, but I did successfully get them out. They held up very well.

High-quality, well-made snap ring pliers manufactured in Germany. Excellent for hard-to-reach snap rings. Knipex never disappoints! Highly recommend if you want a quality tool that will last a lifetime.

After learning the garden variety snap ring pliers carried by all the auto part chains don't have the reach or strength to remove the axel shaft snap ring on a Ford F250 Powerstroke. I ordered a more expensive a pair of pliers that had the reach but were of low quality and broke on the first attempt at using. After scouring the Ford user groups and message boards I found the Knipex 4611A3 snap ring pliers were nearly the universal recommendation for getting this bear of a snap ring out. Of course the auto parts chain stores don't carry these but I was able to get them next day from Amazon. These pliers are very sturdy and have good spring tension but not so much that you need both hands to operate. I was able to remove the snap ring in less than 5 seconds - 4 of which were just lining up the pliers with the holes. Reinstalling the snap ring was just as easy. A must have for Powerstroke owners who do their own work.

A must have for any automotive professional or engine builder.I bought these types of pliers to install the snap rings within each piston that I bought for my gm diesel truck engine.Ive had different sets of pliers in the past that didn’t perform well.With this knipex pair being German made it should perform very well.I have both the external and internal sets from knipex.They definitely are a tough set of pliers.

Only mistake was I did not read what size on snap rings these are used for. These are for BIG rings. I needed a smaller set yet I still kept these as they were on sale and are quality made.
