Easy for humans to maneuver and built well (but light)
This leash is fantastic! We use it for our 9-month old 55lb Goldendoodle. She pulls with all her might at times. This leash is being tested. It is holding up well though! We have used this leash for 6 weeks Here are some other things to note:1. The color is fantastic - and slightly reflective.2. This is light, small, and yet holds her well. It is easy for me to maneuver in one hand.3. This costs less than our previous 3 retractable leashes. Yet it is sturdier (and so light). Remember, light does not equal poorly built. This seems to be a correlation some reviewers make.4. The line itself is not flat. This is a rope. This is good for a few reasons: 1) It does not get tangled. 2) It is less likely to have difficulty retracting (which is how 2/3 of the more expensive leaches became less desirable). 3) The line being a rope, and therefore smaller, is also less likely to get urinated on if the leash gets between her legs or under her tail. All in all, I can recommend this leash. It holds a rambunctious 55lb dog perfectly. I imagine it would have no difficulty holding a much heavier dog. It is small enough - and the rope small enough - to hold a much smaller dog as well.If you're like me and have been purchasing a lot of leashes to find the perfect one, then perhaps you have found it in this Flexi. It is exactly what I wanted: a strong and small retractable leash.

Great for obedient or fairly good dogs, provides some freedom on walsk
One of the best things I have bought for my Labrador in a long time.He is an obsessive sniffer so usually he’ll stay behind to sniff things which makes walking him an exercise in accordion compression. It’s frustrating with a six foot leash so I decided to couple this with the recommended bungee/shock absorber attachment (sold separately).I can let my lab Sniff at his own pace as I keep walking or let him go to places off the road without following him into thick brush and mud.I should note if your dog likes to take off after things, you should really buy the $20 bungee that’s available here. It’ll lessen the shock on you and your dog especially if you tie this leash to your dog’s neck collar. She could choke out if there’s enough of a running start sprinting towards something. The tape inside the leash is fairly sturdy. I’ve seen some broken ones in the reviews here but after a few months of using this with lots of tying the rope around trees and getting it wound up around fairly abrasive objects, the tape still looks great, albeit slightly dirtier. The locking button and click-lock are very easy to use, but does make a considerable amount of clicking noise. I find that the lock button even if not click locked in place can take a second to unlock even after you’ve released the push down button itself because of the way the cogs or gears inside this leash works.I strongly recommend this if you have a good controllable dog who doesn’t dart off all the time. And for convenience, I also got the earthbags poop bag attachment that holds 15 or so bags. It’s great cos it has a little clip for holding onto poop bags so you don’t have to carry it in your hand!

Greatly improved over a previous version we used for 15 years
We used a blue Flexi Giant for about 15 years and the spring finally gave out on it. So I decided on the current version despite a few reviewer issues. I decided upon the XL version even though our 65 lb dog doesn't pull much just for the extra margin of robustness, prorating the price difference over another 10-15 years of use. Among the improvements in the new version (well designed using good materials and made in Germany), is it's geometry which allows your arm to hang straight down instead of having your elbow bent as with the older one This means that the weight, due mostly to the tape, isn't an issue since it just hangs there. The new model also allows full operational control with the thumb whereas to lock the old one in position, you had to push a side button in with the stop engaged to lock it. Now you just push the lock forward with the thumb and then push that thumb forward to engage the locking button. The open reel is nice for drying out in case the tape gets wet. Another difference is the bright fluorescent yellow-green color which makes it much more visible to others, and we have to consider bicyclists, joggers, and drivers where we walk along with other dog walkers. It also comes with a very informative safety guide emphasizing points I didn't know or think about before including dangers associated with skin contact with the tape and of it wrapping around fingers or legs, and snap-back of the metal clasp (and a safety strap to prevent it should there be a failure of the connection in the collar). It also has additional range compared with the old one and does a great job of keeping the tape taught as the dog goes forward and back so it won't get around the dog's legs -- an occasional issue with our old one. All-in-all easier to operate and greatly improved. I'm looking forward to many years of service from it and will update this review with any subsequent observations or concerns.
