I recommend it as well it is helpful for any relationship not just couples. Learning how to communicate and why you do the way you do this book was very helpful give me a lot of homework to practice.

Great book. Most times when a relationship isn't going well, it's best to look in the mirror and ask what can "I" do better. There are so many strategies in this book that allowed me to approach my beloved in a fair, honest, and calm way. The way it's laid out is very intuitive -- you can pick a specific feeling or problem, and read in depth about that one issue.

Its a very very good book. It will keep your relationship(S) healthy. Its made so you can skip to whatever part of the book you need to. I thought that was pretty cool. Im reading it front to back. Im saying its hard to read because my girlfreind has me reading it out loud, and it sometimes uses big words. Big enough words to where I almost sound Like I just learned how to read!!!! Whatever. Its a good book.

This book (in its first edition) was recommended to me by my therapist years ago. I found it very useful because it has areas to work on with your partner and areas that are optional based on your life experiences (topics such as "not seeing your partner through the lens of what your parents did"--not a direct quote). Each chapter's theoretical basis is explained clearly, and then there is an example, making it easy to see how this idea would play out in real life. I have loaned my copy to many friends, and I have bought copies for those who wanted one. I highly recommend this book. It's best if your partner has a copy, too, but you will learn and grow even if you are the only one working on the issues and strategies this book covers.

pretty darn good book. provides some amazing insights on how to properly give and receive communications. I had no idea how to comprehend my problems but now I am in so much better shape thanks to this book. Not everything applies to everyone, but the book will have something that will help most people. It gives templates for worksheets to do at home so you can write things out for analysis later on. I read the whole thing in one week and I am going back to commit the advice to memory.

Yes, this book can help you speak in a more, generally speaking, un-emotional, and thereby, help your communication to be less likely to be used as fuel to the fires of conflict. But it is intellectually based and largely ignores deeper emotional content. It's likely to be great for guys, who want women to be less emotional anyway, but leave women a bit lacking in that crucial part of being understood, and having their emotions validated and explored properly. It's very much a you-do-it-yourself, not-my-problem kind of thing.

This is a great conversation starter for couples. My husband and I have been together for 13 years, married for 8, and we needed some help communicating regarding a few issues we were having. We've only gotten a little ways in, but this book has already helped immensely. Another reviewer said they thought this book is better suited for couples who want the relationship to work and haven't already thrown in the towel and I think I agree. These exercises require thoughtful introspection and you have to put in the work to reap the rewards.

This is one of the best books on communication that I have read and used. The authors really understand people and not only provide the framework for correcting communication challenges but also give realistic examples that resonate with the reader. This is my "go to" book and is dog-eared from use. The first three chapters cover basic skills and are a "must complete." If your goal is to improve your communication skills, complete the exercises in this book. They'll help you with all of your relationships.

It’s a great book with practicals examples and exercices. I’ve been looking at many books to find one that fit my needs. This one is easy to read, concise, diversified and practical. For example, if you are looking for ways to solve fights, this book is really helpful if both parties are open minded and ready to try. It has been helpful to also understand each other’s needs and better communicate.

The hype around this book has been unquestionable and, admittedly, that made me both eager to get my hands on. AMAZING book for all people, definitely worth purchasing.

A book every couple should read. The exercises seem trivial, but they help you re-train your thinking. Only wish they would go into detail to help you determine why you think the way you do in relationships, but that would be beyond the scope of the book.
