I don't speak German so I couldn't tell you if the translation is or isn't spot on. What I can tell you is that (if you have the mind for it) discerning the argument within this book is possible. With that said though, Nietzsche's mind appears to be a bit scrambled because it isn't how philosophers write today: orderly, organized. Nietzsche's argument is similar to John Stuart Mill's book "Utilitarianism" and Aristotle's "Nicomachean Ethics", all of which are more like puzzles to unravel rather than straight-forward theories. With that said, attaining a strong understanding of Nietzsche's moral philosophy contained within this book will leave you feeling excited and, quite possibly, depressed at the same time. But you're gonna have to read it for yourself to know what I mean. Oh, just remember...Nietzsche...well, let's say he 'strongly disliked' Christianity, especially priests. Knowing the priests' role in Nietzsche's genealogy of morality is necessary for understanding the bigger picture he's trying to illustrate about the change of morality throughout time. But yeah, like I said, read it for yourself to know what I mean.Don't question the title.

Worth the extra cost.
I have read many translations of this work (I have little German) and this one is good. But the value of the book is in its introduction, which is excellent, particularly if this is ine of your first forays into this great and exasperating work. You wont regret the extra money spent on this edition if you read the introduction. Also, for those *readers* out there: the pages are of excellent paper, the print is clear and sharp, and the binding very strong. The physical book itself is of very high quality and (I speak from experience) holds up well to every manner of abuse.

A brilliant and prophetic work, in one of its most respected translations and introduced with superlative insight.
If you have not felt compelled to read the brilliant introduction several times, you're not worthy to read the rest. And if you are not weeping for our lost culture and civilization by the end of the first essay it is because you are indeed one of the "last men". Friedrich, where art thou. Now more than ever, we need thine brilliance. It is the West's darkest hour; no one heard you.

very good translation
For my thesis I am reading this book in the original german as well and I must say this translation just capture a lot of the sentiment, I'd still recommend reading the original as well because some things to get lost in translation but I admire how little is lost here. It is a very careful and solid translation of the text.

Great resource.
Excellent edition. The remarks in the Note on the second revised translation concerning the need to be as literal as possible in translation to do justice to the heightened scrutiny of his uses of various terms (the example given here in English is "blue", but I am assuming "mitleid" (pity, compassion, suffering-with) would deserve attention) are quite interesting. I'd be curious to know how Nietzsche's German prose compares with that of Schopenhauer. I take it they were both master stylists.

Understanding Nietzche
I found the introduction to Nietzche work fundamental to embar into Nietzche’s reading. The informed explanation of the whole view as well as specifies nuances of Nietzche’s philosophy paved the way for a better understanding and to be critical within a reasonable context. I highly recommend this book for people who, like me, are beginners reading in philosophy.NC

High Quality
I bought this book for a class, but it is a must have for the budding existentialist or philosopher. The book itself is of high quality and very durable; it hasn't been torn to shreds in all the time I've kept it in an especially raucous backpack.

Interesting philosophy, very nicely written. Lays out evidence through the beginning of each essay, then making a bold conclusion toward the end. Would recommend.
