Handbook of Firearms and Ballistics: Examining and Interpreting Forensic Evidence (Developments in Forensic Science)

This was one of the required texts when I was in graduate school studying forensic science. While my expertise is in biological related science, I am a big firearm enthusiast. This book helped me trigger a great idea for my graduate school thesis. Whether you are needing information professionally or personally, this book is well worth it. Good imaging, great chapter progression, and so much more. This is one of those books that stayed in my current bookcase for reference. This is a keeper!

I really like this book a lot. It's hard to cover all the information with forensic firearms and ballistics in one book. Forensics is where law meets science, you follow the evidence with scientific methods and let the evidence speak. This book will give you all the tools to understand the process. Some areas are completely covered; serial number restoration, gunshot residue examination(GSR),test firing, accidental discharge, trajectory, how to determine range/distance firing, ballistics and firearm examination process. The explanations, terms and nomenclature are all given in a easy to understand way. The areas not covered in detail are trade names, proof markings and the whole identification process(make, model and year of manufactured through markings), I believe its better covered in other reference books. This book gives a great overview on the whole process of identification. If you're looking for serial number restoration, which there is not much published on the subject, this book covers all current methods used. In order to get all the hands on information and training in this book, you would have to work in a forensic firearms lab.

You get all the necessary information from this book. Moreover, they have provided certain marks that might be helpful for the examination of the firearms. Thank you!
