Linksys WRT1900ACS Dual-Band Gigabit Smart WiFi Router (AC1900, USB 3.0 Ports, Ultra-Fast 1.6 GHz CPU, Open Source Ready)

Set up with DD-WRT as a VPN router to geo-shift and access content. Works perfectly for this application and very heavy-duty construction and dual core chips run a WireGuard tunnel with ease and low temperatures. Worked so well I have purchased additional units for me and to set up for friends.

I bought this router only as it has an option to change the firmware to dd-wrt. I did this within a few minutes as it's so easy. After reboot and configuring my VPN client(not server as supported by the Linksys firmware) connected to it with no issues and happily using the device daily. 2.4 and 5ghz wifi with 4 decent ariels provide good wifi in the house.

The performance of this router is terrible!

Signal is stable but coverage is pathetic. It does not cover one villa floor with 4 bedrooms

If you're aiming to install a custom firmware (OpenWrt / DD-Wrt, etc..), then you already know this router is for you. If not, then this is just a solid router (reliable + decent range for small 1000sqft area) even with stock firmware. However, if you have a bigger area to cover (more than 1000sqft), then don't get this one, instead get mesh routers; both amazon eero or google mesh routers are good choices.

Good Product and seamless setup experience.

When I started looking for a router, I was looking for one that supports multiple devices at the same time. Not only, I found this router but also you reschedule some devices to work during some time. (i.e. If you need your kids to use their tablets for a certain number of hours). I liked also that its price is reasonable comparable to other devices.

I bought this router in order to load my VPN on it and it has been working great. Somewhat on the expensive side but can’t beat the quality.

Der Router macht was er soll. Die OEM Firmware wurde direkt nach Inbetriebnahme durch OpenWRT ersetzt. Ich habe stets die aktuelle Stable von OpenWRT installiert und hatte bisher keinerlei Probleme damit. Das WLAN ist stabil und bisher ohne Ausfälle, sowohl im 2,4 als auch im 5GHz Band. Am USB Port habe ich eine 3 TB HDD angeschlossen und als Share für das Heimnetz freigegeben. Sowohl für Windows als auch für Unix Clients. Die Übertragungsgeschwindigkeit auf die Festplatte ist nicht die Beste, aber für ein Tauschlaufwerk reicht es aus. Peak 38MB/s, Durchschnitt 25MB/s. Ausserdem laufen noch ein DynDNC Client, VNstat, OpenVPN, WakeOnLan und einige andere zusätzliche Pakete auf dem Router. Ein Hauptgrund für den Kauf war unter anderem, das mein alter Router (Buffalo WZR-HP-AG300H) im Software-NATing nicht genug Datendurchsatz geschafft hat. Die 200Mbit Anbindung hat er gerade noch so geschafft, aber mit der neuen 400Mbit Anbindung war er dann leider überfordert. Der WRT19000ACS schafft die 400Mbit ohne Probleme. Der Datendurchsatz vom WLAN ist auch sehr gut (~130Mbit - 5Ghz), allerdings ist die Reichweite noch etwas unbefriedigend, gerade im 5GHz Band. Das ist allerdings auch meiner Umgebung geschuldet, hier senden sehr viele andere Router in beiden Bändern. Dort werde ich mir noch mit den Linksys WRT004ANT Antennen Abhilfe verschaffen. Das Gerät steht bei mir in einem geschlossenem Schrank. Das Gehäuse wird dabei spürbar warm, aber nicht heiß.
