Review: Great value, excellent upgrade to cluttered hard drives everywhere. - I'm a film maker and photographer and with files sizes getting bigger all the time I got over my phobia of all things labelled 'Raid' and took the plunge. I'm glad I did as it's all very simple. Insert standard hard drives (NAS drives are best because they don't constantly spin and last longer / are made for storage) and away you go. The first two bays are for a Raid setup. All this means is that you put two identical sized drives in to them, turn the switch on the side to 'Raid 1' and you only see one drive on your machine. The second 'disappears' and is automatically written to so you have a perfect duplicate of your drive should it die. Just what I need. I have an archive drive in the third bay that I am slowly watching back up to Backblaze online and will do the same with the fourth and fifth bays as the archive fills over time. Job done. It really is extremely simple. Don't be put off when you take it out of the box by how light it is - once you add the drives the weight shoots up and it sits very stably on your shelf. Finally a professional, reliable system for storing all my precious data. Couldn't be happier with my choice.
Review: Absolutely dreadful.. don't but it if you care about your data... - First of all, this thing is far too expensive for what it does. At nearly 270 USD at time of this review, this is an absolute rip-off. The hardware used it very limited and old, to the extent that you cannot even extract the drive IDs from the hard drives (not easily at least). Thermals are quite terrible as well, and I would not trust the built-in RAID controller for a second. If you use your drives stand-alone, i.e. a 5 individual drives, you are probably o.k... For this price, the presented hardware and software is absolutely disgraceful. When I reached out to customer support, I did get answers, but unfortunately very unqualified ones. It took some virtual screaming to get somebody qualified to assist and even then, they had to acknowledge the limitations of their hardware... My advice: avoid at all cost.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pros and Cons
*by J***D on 23 September 2019*

I had no trouble using this product from the time it was unboxed. It is quick enough for me. I just want offline storage that is wired via USB. Mirroring is available to only the first 2 drives in the 5 drive bays. This is not presented very well but is listed in the documentation for the device both as you shop and in the owners manual... You just have to look close at the device promotion and documentation. I've had it on many hours. Shutdown is easy, simply system tray hardware and eject media icon. I power off the drives when not in use. I use WD black drives, which most wouldn't use because of their speed isn't necessary for storage like this. I'm happy with the device and would purchase it again. I don't know if it's hot swap-able but then I don't need that feature. No buffering issues etc. I'm always careful with drives and would shutdown before I changed something out anyway. Hope this helps you in your choice to make. I run movies that I have ripped from my DVD collection to one of the drives in the array. The movies are clear and not choppy. I'm happy since this is all on USB 3.0
