To me It all really depends on water change regime. **Q: Will these work in the FX4 or are they a different size?** A: Yes. It will fit your FX4. **Q: Do these also fit the fluval fx4?** A: Every single part/pad etc made for FX4/5/6 are interchangeable with the exception of the pump motor for FX4. Everything else and I mean everything else fits all FX series. **Q: Can this be used for preparation for an Axolotl? And if so, is it recommended?** A: I am not sure. Using it helps in toxic ammonia. Your critter lives in murky, muddy water I believe. Ammonia can build up anywhere. You might get contact your pet store.
