This is inexpensive practice paper. I'm new to sumi-e, and have only gone through one other student "practice roll." This is one of 4 new papers I purchased recently to learn the differences. I do use high quality stick ink and good brushes. The first practice roll was a bit thicker, but I definitely prefer the results from this paper. I find the water a bit easier to control, and the ink didn't seem to spread quite so easily. I also played with watercolor, which seemed to work and dry fine. Of course the paper is very fragile when wet, but I believe calm and gentle handling is a part of the zen experience with this type of art.

Not a bad calligraphy paper. First I was disappointed when I got it because it had a different feel but I've been using it in the last couple of days and it's fine. Great value for the money.
