OXO Good Grips Rice & Small Grains Washing Colander

This is an amazing thing to have. I can't believe I waited so long to get one. I can put about 4 cups of rice in this and wash it without losing a single grain. The bottom holes allow most of the water to drain away and any addition can be poured out from the spout area. It is lightweight and very durable with it's thick, heavy plastic. The design was well thought out because as I already said, it works perfectly! Very easy to clean, too! I am so glad I finally broke down and got one! My previous method usually resulted in losing at least a teaspoon of rice when trying to drain off the water, and our normal strainer's holes were too big to use it for this task. This is perfect!

Good construction & materials quality, but even more impressive function design. The water drains after a controlled delay and it works beautifully - I've never gotten my rice SO clean SO easily. Placement of the drain areas are very workable and efficient to the process. This is a very well thought-out, nicely-made product that works as promised. Highly Recommended.

How did I live without this colander to wash rice and quinoa? I even use it to wash canned beans before adding them to a recipe. Perfect size. Dishwasher safe, it has good grips on the sides. It is made quite very well.

I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with this OXO colander thingy. I mostly use it for rinsing rice before cooking, and it works like a charm. The holes are super tiny, so like, no grains escape down the drain which is a big plus, ya know? I used to use a regular colander and always lost some rice, but not anymore! The handles are comfy too, which is nice when you're shaking the water around. It's also really easy to clean, just a quick rinse and it's good to go. Seems pretty sturdy too, like it won't break easy. Honestly, for the price, its a really good buy. If you cook rice or quinoa alot, you should def get one of these. Makes rinsing grains way easier and less messy. Two thumbs up from me! 👍👍

I eat rice daily and prefer it fluffy while maintaining distinct grains of rice. For me, this is most easily achieved when I wash the grains thoroughly until the water runs completely clear. Doing this by hand in a regular bowl is time-consuming and can get water everywhere so this bowl has been huge time saver. The built-in strainer holes make it easy to rinse the rice thoroughly without worrying about grains spilling out but there are enough holes that it drains pretty much at the perfect rate to continuously wash. I never feel that the water is draining too slowly as this was a concern of mine before I bought it. The angled bottom and side perforations are also nice functional additions. The plastic feels very sturdy but lightweight, and the size is perfect for washing rice the 3-4 cup batches I tend to cook. It’s also easy to clean and doesn’t retain any odors. It does feel silly to have such a specialized tool but if you eat (and therefore have to wash) rice as much as I do then this is well worth it. I do think the price at $20 is a bit excessive for a molded piece of plastic, so I am rating this 4/5.

Excellent strainer. Beautiful design. I bought it to wash and strain fine bulgur wheat which is even finer than quinoa and it worked perfectly! I tested it with quinoa, as well.

We got this rice-washing bowl after learning about the arsenic levels in rice, and how they can be reduced by washing and soaking. It is made out of heavy plastic so no risk of rusting-- typical Oxo quality-- and has survived multiple drops to the floor without damage. It gets used almost daily for washing rice, but also for quinoa, beans, other grains, and basically anything small that needs to be washed. The holes are a lot smaller than a regular strainer, which keeps the grains inside the bowl, but we do sometimes have to poke out small pieces with a toothpick. Not enough of a hassle to worry about, though. A little more expensive than no-name options, but worth it in my view as it will last. If you need a rice washing bowl, this works well.

OXO products are high quality. I've had this strainer for years and it looks like new. It makes straining grains so much easier than using the pot and lid. It's light weight, made of thick plastic with grips on the handles.
