Works well to measure the Manganese level in our drinking water

I recently installed a well water treatment system and bought this for ongoing monitoring. The results compare well with laboratory test results done initially. The testing procedure is a bit tedious, but works well when you do it right. Follow the directions carefully. You need to be good at discerning slight color differences to read the test results accurately.

This kit is essentially a useless test for manganese alone. I use a greensand filter to filter out a high iron content in my well water and wanted to know if I had a manganese problem too. But this test will yield false positive results if there are other metallic ions present like copper, iron and others in the water. Yes, IRON! Now I found out the hard way why the product description states in a cryptic manner, "Inferences from other metals." So this test is not manganese specific but will give a positive result for an assortment of other metals and would be more correctly labeled, not as a manganese test, but a metal test. So I ran the test anyway on untreated water and it comes out at the maximum concentration of 2.0 PPM. Then I run the test on treated water (greensand filtering is supposed to remove both iron and manganese) and what are the results? 2.0 PPM! What have I learned about my water and my filter for $28.59? NOTHING!

Easy to use but I agree with other customers that it is difficult to match up with the color chart. Results were enough to send my water to a professional testing organization.

Too difficult to tell if water test turns orange when the end of the test strip is already colored orange to start with. Dumb.

Worked easily. Read directions clearly though - the packets aren't the same. They are numbered.

The results don't match any of the colors on the package. It starts out orange and just gets brighter. Doesn't match the light orange nor the darker colors.
