Why does manufacturer under product details indicate Amazon, but in the description at the top of the page it says Fitbit manufactured?

Well, the charger is manufactured by Fitbit, so I suspect the Amazon-named entry is meant to indicate who's selling or distributing it.

Will it work on older models?

No. It barely works on its intended model. A badly designed charger. Last fitbit I will buy.

Why does it look like there is tape wrapped around the cord near the charging clip?

Mine doesn’t have tape on it. It has an extra plastic support at the connection from the cord to the charging clip

does it work for fitbit 3?

No!! It doesn’t fit on any of them. Don’t buy it
