A gorgeous little book that goes through the process of how paintings were made in the past using examples from the National Gallery collection. Not exactly a how-to painting guide, but provides sufficient historical glimpses as each chapter moves step by step through a painting’s construction. There’s lots and lots of detailed examples on medieval icon painting if you’re interested in that sort of stuff as well.
