An exceptional train book for youngsters
My 3 year old, like many others his age, is obsessed with trains. We regularly go to the library to check out books about trains. We found this one on a recent visit, and it stands heads and shoulders above many of the others I've seen because it is a great balance between the picture books that preschoolers and older children love and non-fiction books that can sometimes be too detailed for children.Every other page has a photograph of a type of train or part of a train, and the facing pages provide a small amount of text about the subject. There is just enough text to provide basic information plus a little more, but the text is short enough that the entire book can be read aloud to a child in about 5-10 minutes. All types of trains (steam, diesel, and electric) are shown as well as different types of cars. The photographs are bright, clear, and coloful, so much so that the images approache coffee-table book quality. This book would make an excellent gift.

Colorful
A colorful and informative book about different types of trains. I am pleased with it as a gift for a five year old who likes trains.

Good pictures, and descriptions of train cars.
My 3 year old son loves this book, and I have no idea why. He looks at the big colorful photos and reads it to us. We tried reading it to him, but there are too many words, and it is too complicated for him. He has memorized what kind of trains and train cars.

Wonderful book
This is a perfect book for little boys who love trains. My grandson has "read" it many times, looking at all the photos over and over. It has lots of detail and train information so we are both learning a lot about the history of trains! Now he has enough of the information end memorized that he can tell a pretty good story about different kinds of trains.

Train Lover
My five year old grandson loves trains, and he spends a great deal of time looking over this book.. I have read it to him numerous times. Now he is on the alert for any train he sees and names the cars as they pass. Beautiful pictures and the text is understandable for the younger child.

Not exactly the type of book my grandson was interested in. May be good for when he gets older. Why?One more word required

Grandson loves the pictures
This is a beautiful book filled with trains. My grandson loves to have me sit with him & "read" the book - he's only 3. But he loves to look at the photos & talk about the different types of trains. It is beautifully illustrated & is great for all young train lovers.
