The are not messy, do not make you hands smell. The mesh core of this bait makes them extremely durable, and they stay on your hook very well, cast after cast. I much prefer to frozen bait, and live bait can be sketchy to find some days, and requires a bait well or bucket. I did catch at least one fish with these (only 3 other people on the boat caught a fish) so I would have to say they work. Good value, and close the package and you are ready for your next trip. My package had a best used date several months out, so that makes this product a great value.
