Q: What is the spade bit for? Most door lock jigs only include the whole saws and arbor.

To make the hole in the door edge for a deadbolt or latch.

Q: Work with existing hole to make it larger?

This does with a little assistance. I had the same problem with an older door. I bored into some scrap lumber the same size "plug" to fit into the center of the pre-bored hole since that was the only way to find center in the old door. Hope that helps.
