Full disclosure- I'm not a calligrapher. A friend turned me on to these just for writing because she knows I write a lot. Like, a lot- I bought 5 and have burned through one already. Also, it should be noted (pun intended) that I'm a dedicated Micron user and still am (read: snotty when it comes to pens). I would have never even tried these if they hadn't found their way to me. That being said I'm here to tell you that these pens are pretty great. I'm a fan. It's nice to have options and I feel fancy writing with these. Especially in cursive. Is that helpful for you to be able to make an informed choice, I dunno. Do you wanna feel fancy writing whatever it is that you're writing? These pens will get you there. The hard tipped ones anyway. I personally have not experienced the same issues other reviewers have mentioned, the pens I ordered all work sufficiently.

It has a firm brush tip and I prefer the firmer version of this Tombow pen to its softer cousin. It is great for beginners, as I teach calligraphy. I would recommend it as a good place to start when learning calligraphy rather than the traditional dip pens. I find it will give better results than the chiseled pens of this sort also. Remember to keep turning the pen as you write words so the tip doesn't develop a 'favoured' side.

My absolute FAVORITE brush tip pens. I’ve been using this brand for 5ish years and it is amazing. I use mainly alcohol markers, so the water based ink doesn’t smear when I color. You can get very broad strokes as well as super fine details. Even if you aren’t an artist, these are very satisfying to write with and the pigment is very dark. They don’t dry out super fast and I would say they are 100% worth the purchase!

I loved these pens when I first purchased them in 2021. But these are different. They are "scratchy" and the tip doesn't move smoothly over the paper. I am sad, because there is no other pen out there that I liked more than than the original Tombow from 2021. I cannot recommend these pens and don't know what to do with the pack of 5 that I bought. I don't like using them, esp for two project I am doing that involve a lot of writing. I have tried other pens that were not good for one reason or another (check out my other pen reviews) , so I guess I will just have to keep hunting! Addendum, sorry but I am unable to leave reviews for any other pens like I said above. The Writech are unavailable and the Bic gel were purchased to far back for a review. I apologize for the misleading promise.

Tombrows were an excellent find. The tip has a nice flex to it. Between the hard points of something like a Micron and the really soft brush like tips. You can really use pressure to get some snap to your ink line. Good for us amateur wannabe inkers.
