A Nice Book but with Caveats
A nice book, and well written, but I could have wished for many more pictures of the interiors of these houses and less space allocated to the gardens and grounds. There seemed to be just too many wasted pages. However, I did enjoy the rooms I saw and don't regard the book as a failure; I just feel it could have been better.

The same great book the second time around
I had a copy of this book many years ago and loved it. Somehowit got lost in the shuffle of moving. When I received English Countryagain, I realized that it is still very special. Wonderful photos, nicely donebook and not dated at all. Glad it was still in print. It is rare a book stayscurrent after many years...shows the intent of the author.

I am reviewing hardcover pub 1987 by Caroline Seebohm, English Country, Living In England's Private Houses
Seebohm is the author of two "English Country" books, and I infer at least one used-book purchaser on Amazon didn't receive what he thought he was buying. I wanted, and received, a hardcover with dust jacket, entitled "English Country, Living in England's Private Houses", by Caroline Seebohm and Christopher Simon Sykes, pub by Clarkson Potter in 1987, measuring approx 10.25" H x 10.25" W x 1.0" thick. It's filled with gorgeous photos of buildings, lawns, gardens, interiors, pottery, etc. I love floral chintz fabrics, patterned wallpapers, colorful rugs, and traditional furniture and window treatments, and gardens--and this book is a feast for my eyes! But it is not the same book as "English Country, A Little Style Book".

Be careful! This is the pocket-sized version of a much larger book.
Beware: This is a tiny, 4.5" square version of a full size book by the same authors, using the same photographs. For what it is, it's fine. This is not, though, a full size volume.

One of the best in this genre
I bought this for a friend as I already have it. From an artistic and design standpoint the layout is amazing. The juxaposition of antique wallpapers and paintings with photographs of similar subject really catches one's eye. The photography and text are first class. It is a geat favorite of mine.

Beautiful and looks new
The book is pristine. Beautiful and looks new. When I opened the mailing envelope it reeked of bug spray. That didn't bother me, I am sure it was precautionary. Took the book out and loved every page and then the palms of my hands turned red and began burning an itching. Reaction to the bug spray, I think. Washed my hands several times and took a couple of days to stop itching. Put the book outside for a few days and Husband wiped down the book with a damp rag. I can use it now. Gave 4 stars due to what the distributor did regarding the bug spray. I would be cautious when ordering from this seller.
