Withstands cutting and pokes from x-acto knives without an issue whatsoever! I'm running my knife across it with a metal ruler, and you can't even see a scratch. Serves as a great mat for crafting in general, and the size for the price is super reasonable to me.

I love this tried an true product. For what its worth, I'm old enough to remember when this product was invented. When I left one of my jobs as a graphic designer, I left it behind. I was embarking on a new career path as a digital graphic designer. I kept my XActo knife to open Amazon boxes. Fast forward three decades. I'm spending more of my creative time doing fine-art projects, and I create 3D comps from sometimes small pieces of paper and cardboard. Now where is my self-healing cutting matte? Oh yeah, I lost it years ago. So I ordered a brand new one, from, (you guessed it) AMAZON. I also bought refill XActo blades. I was delighted. This matte is almost exactly, and probably better, than I remembered. Now, where the heck is my XActo knife? No more cutting on pieces of corrugated cardboard. This matte actually preserves the knife's point and cutting edge, providing smooth and perfect curves. It's a miracle of materials engineering!

Fantastic value that does exactly what I need it to do. I do a lot of crafting, art, and general tinkering with stuff. I also have a young daughter who has yet to find a pen, crayon, sharpie, pencil, or otherwise ink based stick that she can use to make some pretty awesome art. So I got one of these mats to protect the coffee table from being destroyed by her (and my) work. I don't really do any cutting directly on the mat, so I can't speak to the durability, but it seems thick and solid. The ruler markings are awesome and invaluable for helping speed up some of the metalwork I do. Overall, this is a great art mat and a good value. Definitely recommended.

Mat arrived a little warped. Several days laid flat with weights remedied the warp. Otherwise a great product.
