On the road to nowhere ?
A very touching book about a father and son in a unique and quite terrifying situation travelling a dangerous road at the end of our world. Close as we become to this pair we never do learn the actual names of 'Pappa' or his boy.Cormac McCarthy's book is very different to most I have read. It has no chapters and a structure that is very different but one that suits this harrowing yet moving story. Throughout the book we hope that the story will end well for the pair but fear that it probably won't. It is this hook which keeps us turning those pages. I am told that the film of this book was very good but I feel that the written word might have been the best medium for this story. Perhaps I will watch the film in the future but I would recommend that you give this book a read. I have not read any of McCarthy's other books but on the basis of this one I can quite see why he is such a highly rated writer.

306 pages in two sittings.. What a story!
As there aren't obvious chapters, the book just keeps you gripped and is an absolute beast of a page turner. Although not long, it's a tough read as the world Cormac creates is so detailed that it's hard not to have to re-read parts to just really understand the impact of that world, also to try and recreate the world in your mind as it's so so different from the one we live in now, somewhat poignant with recent events in climate change. As a new father, it's incredible to see and feel the lengths at which the man and boy in this story go and I think we can all 'carry the fire' a little more in our current world. A great read and one that you cannot put down!

A great read
This book surprised me. Having no chapters and only based on 2 characters (a father and Son) with no names was strange to me, but it drew me in and I couldn't put it down! It is such a profound story of survival of the fittest and it kept me engaged the whole way through. I'd definitely recommend this book.

Perfect for those who enjoy an immersive and macabre dystopian setting
An intensely descriptive read, perfect for those who enjoy an immersive and macabre dystopian setting within their novels, perhaps not best suited to those looking for a quick read with fast plot lines and twists; better appreciated for its language and imagery than plot development.

Tremendous
This book was suggested by someone...I wasnt disappointed... The concise style of writing reflected the environment of the story in that there wasn't anything left to waste or superfluous...I'm not a huge reader of fiction, but the authors ability to draw me in and feel emotions for the characters on the page was amazing.Great book. Fully recommended.Noticed a few negative reviews on here and each to their own, but think that is probably down to a lack of imagination of the reviewer than of bad writing by the author...

excellent
No problems with the CD playing. The narrator's voice is perfect for the book. Of course the story is thought provoking, harrowing and brilliant.
