I wish the seller or manufacturer can clarify it. **Q: How do I know what size for an adult man 6’ 1” to play catch with his kids. Don’t need anything fancy just a basic glove that fits.** A: It’s really not a matter of the size of your hand as it is what the glove is for. (The exception being the 10” glove, which is for kids.) An infielder is going to use a smaller 11-11.5” glove because it’s easier to get it from the mitt and into their hand to make a quicker throw. But if you’re playing catch with your kid, that isn’t a factor. Most gloves are 12” and it’ll work fine for pretty much anything unless your hand is either really small or really big. **Q: How Do You Soften This?** A: The old way was to put 3 balls in the pocket, use a rope to secure it and dunk it in a bucket of water overnight. Let it dry for a few days then use shave cream with Lanolin in it and slather it on liberally. The 14" size is for sure geared more for softball due to its size. The 13" would be geared for a baseball outfielder or for softball again. The smaller sizes 12.5, and 12" are definitely geared more for baseball, but for sure could be used for softball. The bottom line is this a great backyard, recreational glove to play catch with or use for some recreational baseball or softball and it is more important to get the size that fits your hand size. My husband wanted to start playing catch with my 2 sons in the backyard and around the corner at the field because my older son sounds like he might be interested in playing ball. We took a drive to Dicks sporting goods we went to the mitts and saw the prices I almost passed out right there in the isle. Gone are the days when you can just go shop in the store and run around to the field or go outside that day. They were starting at $99 and they didn't even have his size for that much. We aren't going into the major leagues here, we are just wanting to get started out and see how we do. Even then if he does end up playing, I'm not sure I want to spend that much on a mitt when these mitts are really nice. They are soft and broken in already and his hand actually fits in it, whereas the expensive ones at the store he couldn't even get his hand into it, who wants that aggrevation. "They won't last as long" who cares at this price I'll buy a new one every season who cares. Then we went to the bats I felt my blood pressure going up and up the more we kept walking around, $150-$200 for 1 bat. I looked on Amazon and Walmart, same rating and size bat $65-$80. Smh, you can't even have fun anymore and do anything without being stressed out your going to go poor getting your kid sports equipment. anyway all this to be said- these Franklin gloves are amazing. They are exactly what we were looking for at the exact price we were looking for them at. Just do some research regarding what size you need because 10,11,12,13,14 isn't the size of your hand it's the size of the length of the webbing. However my older son is a giant, so I had to buy a few different gloves in 3 different sizes because chat got said depending on how large and wide his hands are, a 12 or 12.5 may not do it and he may actually need a 13 for the size so that's to be seen, but I will probably end up keeping whatever one he don't end up using and just keep it for myself I can go play with them sometimes maybe. So it's fine. The bat I bought was a cheap $20 bat on here and it's perfect as well. Not too much, just a little something to get started. Happy with my purchases.
