**Q: appropriate and effective tool for opening jars, even jars with fairly small lids like maybe 3" diameter?**
A: Might be overkill, but it should do the job.

**Q: Will this take off an AR free floating barrel handgrip and nut?**
A: I assume you're talking about a AR-15.  It will certainly grip it without leaving gouge marks. However, if the barrel guard requires a lot of torque to remove I'd suggest using "Knocker Loose" to free up any corrosion on the threads prior to any attempt to remove the guard.

**Q: what is the strap made of and what is the wigth of the strap?**
A: Mine appears to be some type of woven nylon material.  The strap is 1" wide.

**Q: does this work on aluminium car parts?**
A: Sure it does! Only the nylon strap touches the thing you need unscrewed so its good for plastic, glass or aluminum.  It is typically used for water or oil filter casings for instance.
