This is my new favourite kitchen gadget! It has made peeling and coring apples for apple dishes so much easier and faster. The peeler is also great to use without the "corer" for any dishes that require larger quantities of potatoes such as homemade fries, mashed potatoes or potato salad. The corer is simply rotated out of the way to the side so as not to be used for potatoes. The suction is very strong when used on my laminate countertop-it's not going anywhere once it's set up in a spot by engaging the lever. There may be a small bit of peel left on the top or bottom to the apple or potato, and perhaps a tiny bit of apple core left, which I cut out, but overall I have found it is still a huge time-saver. I like that the wooden handle is well-finished and well protected with varnish. It feels like a very well-made and sturdy tool when in use. On the negative side, before each use the corer should be carefully checked for alignment with the part that pushes the apple through, to ensure that the metal parts will not contact and possibly wear down each other. It can take a couple of attempts before they are properly set up, because there is a small area of clearance between the 2 parts, but this does not take too much time. Also people should know that I don't believe this item would be suited to dishwasher cleaning due to the wooden handle, but it is very easy to clean by rinsing under running water after use. For long-term storage I wipe a very thin coat of petroleum jelly on any unpainted metal parts to protect against any possible rust formation. I do this because I appreciate having this tool so much!

The suction cup does not move until you release it! The peel is perfection-thin enough to remove the peel, but does not sacrifice the flesh of the apple. The spiral slicer and corer is efficient and makes preparing apples for my granddaughter fun and simple! In fact, I am FaceTimed often to peel an apple for her viewing pleasure! She loves the peeled apples you can purchase and this does the trick, quickly, easily and safely! I used home grown apples that were small, bumpy and ugly! Johnny Apple’s removal of the skin made these ugly ducklings into beautiful swans! User error resulted in a misaligned core and I accidentally bumped corer once which stopped my process until I figured it out! I peeled, cored and sliced enough small (plum sized) apples in 30 minutes which made almost a gallon of apple butter. (It was a lot of apples!) I plan to try potatoes next. I have an electric peeler which had very little success with anything. I did not buy the unbranded intentionally because of the big job ahead of me. I’m glad I spent more money on the real thing. The Johnny Apple Peeler is a sturdy, easy to use kitchen tool that I did not realize how much I needed! I plan to buy another one as a gift for a very special granddaughter and her family!

I love this apple peeler. I had reservations about how well it would work. I have only used it to peel and core apples so far and it performs this task effortlessly. Unlike some other unfortunate reviewers , I found that the suction on this peeler was strong and attached to my bench firmly while peeling. Very easy to clean. Love it!
