Philips Respironics DreamWear Nasal Cushion (Medium Wide)

I'm new to CPAP and have tried many different full face masks, nasal cushions and nasal pillows. I'm a big guy with a large head and a beard, so it has been challenging to find a good fit. And I also sleep primarily on my side or on my stomach with my head turned out, so that makes it challenging to find something that doesn't leak when you press into the pillow. But so far, this works great.. I'm grateful for Amazon and CPAPSupply. Although my insurance covers my supplies, it only covers one mask, and then I can replace it after a month. But the mask provided by my oxygen provider was not working for me. So through Amazon, I was able to try a bunch of different masks relatively cheaply. Waaaay cheaper than the online CPAP shops. According to the Phillips fitting guide, I should be a medium in this mask. But I could not get comfortable with the medium. I felt like the opening under the nose was not wide enough. It didn't extend much over both of my nostrils, and I felt a bit starved for air. And I would often get this "flapping sensation" from the mask in my nose, presumably from the mask's membrane flapping? I don't know. Also, it would chafe the area under my nose (though I realize chafing is normal with nasal pillows/cushions). So I thought I'd try the wide version. I'm glad I did. It is more comfortable, and I feel like I'm getting adequate oxygen. I have slept through the night pretty well for a few nights now. And so far with this size, there has been no chafing. I only knocked it one star because it's a bit louder than others that I have tried. My breathing is louder, and I feel like that wakes me at times, but I will get used to it. Also, when laying on my side, I can hear the air blowing through the frame as well, depending on how my pillow is. But it is worth it for the comfort compared to other full face masks or nasal pillows where the pillows actually goes up into your nostrils. I highly recommend it.

I have been wondering how to rate this mask. The quality is great, but the style is not for me. Product gets 5 stars....efficacy gets 0 stars. When you use a mask that covers your mouth and nose, there is equal air pressure whether your mouth is open or closed. With a nose pillow, when your mouth is open, the air rushes in your nose and blasts out of your mouth. It's as if the air pressure is literally forcing your mouth open. I don't know how people can endure the flow as my mouth and throat were dry within minutes. It's a fail for me.

I have used these for years now. Once I found out they come in a wide version, I had fewer issues. I have a larger nose and the wide width helps me to breathe better. This particular one whistled at the small hole that lets air out. I made the hole larger by forcing a pen through it and leaving it in there all day. That prevented it from whistling any more so I gave it four stars.

I love these. I tried two sizes to get the right fit, but they are far less expensive so that extra cost was "no big deal". No more marks on the bridge of my nose. So much more comfortable than the other kind.

I have bought two of these over the years and I love them! I received this on-time and in good condition and have been pleased by how long the material actually lasts and works great with my Philips Dream Machine set up. I'll continue to buy them from this vendor because it's cheaper than many other CPAP stores.

I figured I'd try the Medium-Wide version after trying the regular medium and large. While it was comfortable for a little while, I found that I spent a lot of time at night fiddling with the cushion so I could position it to breathe more freely. It seemed like the silicone on this size is slightly thinner and wears out quicker. There were also times when the edge of the opening would cover the opening of one nostril each time I inhaled, and with one nostril usually already stuffer, it temporarily blocked my breathing. Nothing too serious though-- it was mostly just annoying. Unfortunately the medium-wide cushion only has lasted a month before wearing out. So I think I will instead try sticking with the large size I already have for now.

My husband was unable to use this with his cpap machine due to his facial hair, has a moustache. This prevents the nasal mask fitting well so it was either revert to his previous full nasal mask or remove his moustache 😱 Needless to say which won, we will keep the under nose adapter just in case his facial hair does ever go however if it had given an indication in the description this could be an issue we would not have purchased it.
