It picks up where Catch A Tiger By The Tail left off (this is where if you haven't read the first 6 books you should turn back now) with the kidnapping of Dex and that Dex's parents were not only killed in a random act of violence as they were thought to have been but were actually murdered for something Dex's mother possessed before she was killed. What did she have in her posession? Where is it now? Why wait 30 years to go after this mysterious thing? Who would want them dead for it? Who took Dex and why? Charlie Cochet answers all these questions and more. The entire cast of characters is back including some that I personally am wondering if we will see more of in later books in the series. There are so many twists and turns in this book and it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Every page I turned my thought was always "What's going to happen next?" I loved this book and I love the entire series. Charlie Cochet took the real world and a world with humans and Therians, combined them and made it believable. I have read many other books with shifters and the characters are always like "Oh no, it doesn't hurt to change forms at all." or the regular every day humans know about people who shift and everyone is automatically cool with it. While in the THIRDS series, this kind of thing is more like the real world and how we in real life react to people who are different than we are. Some people are cool with people being different while other people absolutely are not. Smoke & Mirrors has all the laughter, tears, love, and on the edge of your seat excitement you would expect from a THIRDS novel. I would highly recommend not only this series for someone who has never read it but definitely this book to anyone who has read the first six and wants to continue on with the series. Review: Warning: This book will blow your mind! - The seventh installment in the THIRDS series holds the answer to every question I've had about some aspects of the story since book one. It leaves no stone unturned, it's an emotional roller coaster, painful, funny, and brilliant. Needless to say, Smoke & Mirrors exceeded my expectations by far! Since we were left with a cliffhanger at the end of Catch a Tiger by the Tail, this book starts where the other left off. The first chapter is intense, and I was so so angry with Dex's captor that I just wanted to put my hands through my Kindle and strangle the bastard. But at the same time, Dex made me prouder than ever. I adore that man! And then things just continue to get worse from there, and you'll constantly feel the need to hug Sloane, Cael and Tony, and your heart will break a million times over. Fear not, though. I've said this before and I'll say it again: Charlie always finds the opportune moment to write a hilarious scene right when you think you can't take the agony of your babies suffering anymore. And she gets mad props from me for that. There's a lot of things I loved about this book. I was happy to see Dex and Sloane's relationship moving to the next level, growing stronger than ever, their bond solid and unbreakable. I was mesmerized by Ash, who stood by Cael's side unconditionally, never asking questions, always offering support and love. Then there were Seb and Hudson, ripping my soul to shreds, and I seriously need their book, because I want them to be happy. What's more, Tony proved throughout this entire book that he's a remarkable father, who gave his sons the chance to have a beautiful family. I can't go into much more without giving away spoilers, which I don't want to do, because it's better if you experience this book on your own. I, for one, fear the wait for book eight will kill me, and I cannot wait to see where this journey will take us. Until then, we have THIRDS Thursdays to see us through, and thank God for that. I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A- rating... *by S***G on December 29, 2016* My Quickie Review: Ooh, this book changes everything in Dex and Sloane's lives and I can't wait to see where this series goes from here. It was fantastic! In fact, it was so good...I started listening to it on audio, but then had to put it aside because I wanted to read it faster. I needed to know what was going on and what was going to happen. So, I picked up my print book to read faster...yes, this is a series I buy in audio, ebook, and print. I love THIRDS. In this book, poor Dex is getting beat up again as he's kidnapped, but I don't know who suffers more when this happens...Sloane or Dex. I loved how this book went back to the origins of Dex's coming to live with Maddock...and how that all circled back around to his relationship with Sloane. So fantastic, and honestly that final line could have easily been the perfect finale for the series...although I'm so happy that it isn't. The only thing that niggled is the way the conflict went down between Dex and Sloane. As a reader, we've just been through that same drama too many times...even the characters agree. But it didn't keep me from totally fangirling over the book. Like I said, I totally can't wait to see where the author goes from here. And please, please, please...let Seb and Hudson get their own book soon.
