For  Saxon Math 1 An Incremental Development: Home Study Teachers Edition  the workbook is an essential part of homeschooling (unlike for  Saxon Math K Homeschool: Teacher's Manual 1st Edition 1994 ). The parent's manual has the workbook pages printed in a small picture. You *could* make your own workbook pages using the parent's manual - I did this for a few lessons. I soon grew tired of doing that and bought the workbook. Now beware: this listing is workbook part one. You will still need to buy workbook part two. Also, I don't bother with the  Saxon Math 1: An Incremental Development Home Study Meeting Book  - I didn't use it for Saxon K and I am not using it for Saxon Math 1 either.We are using Saxon Math 1 for kindergarten because we did most of Saxon Math K last year during pre-school. While Saxon Math is not common core aligned, due to the changes in the curriculum for the country, kids in K are now doing addition and subtraction. For this reason, I did Saxon Math K for pre-school and now I am doing Saxon Math 1 for K. This keeps my son more or less aligned with peers doing common core at public school, while still providing a classic approach to math. My son is doing fine with math. In fact, it is his favorite subject. I -the parent- am not in love with Saxon. It is very parent intensive and you have to read the instructions to your child if he is still not a fluent reader. However, my son is thriving using this program and he enjoys it. For this reason we are using it on a daily basis. We have modified a few things (how we approach the calendar for example) just to keep things fresh as it is very similar to Saxon Math K and we did that all last year.The workbook itself has great content. Most days it has one side with the day's work and on the other side has the homework. I like this as it helps reinforce the work you did in the morning later that day. It also includes the assessments. We do them because they can be enlightening for the parent. Not to give a grade to your child. Rather, to understand what areas the child needs to review or what he did not understand.The pages of the workbook are thin. My son has made holes in a couple of pages trying to erase. Now I ask him to call me when he needs to erase something. I wish the paper was of better quality. One good thing about this workbook is that you can easily remove the pages using the perforated top and it comes with three holes to place the pages in a binder if you wish. The workbook opens from the top. She has a late summer birthday and is one of the youngest kids in the class. Plus several kids going into the 1st grade at her school were held back before they started kindergarten to get an age advantage. So, we wanted to make sure she could keep her math skills up for the summer and this workbook is doing the trick. She loves to play school with it and has fun solving the problems. Each page only takes a few minutes to work and there is lots of repetition that builds on itself. The book can easily be taken places or you can just tear out a few pages to take with you.
