Pain to setup but works very well once you get it right
Our driveway is 3/10 of a mile long and climbs 400 ft up the side of a mountain. It is very battery sensitive. When I first tried it in the house to make sure it worked, I got nothing. I had read something about low battery in another review and had suspected our batch of 9 volts for a while anyway and had a new pack in the drawer. Changed it out to one of the new batch and it worked just fine. Took the transmitter down to the bottom of the drive and was getting nothing. Moving up the drive I was still getting hit and miss on detection. Looking at the circuit board there is a jumper to make the LED flash when it detects so I changed it to that and found out how sensitive it is to the distance setting jumpers. There are three choices, each for different ranges of distance from the sensor to your target object (vehicle). It does matter..... Part of my problems were that in most places where I was trying to put it, the sensor was way off for the range it was set for. Using the LED on setting allowed me to zero in on distance from sensor to target so it tripped every time when it was supposed to. By changing the distance jumper setting and seeing when the LED went off without needing someone at the top to tell me it went off. Next I tried it in several locations I wanted to put it and still had some problems in that it would sense, but not announce on the base unit. Since it behaved the same way at different ranges up and down the road, I thought I might have some interference on the frequency range it was transmitting on. They give you a wide range of choices so I played with that and moving up two base frequencies and using the third sub-frequency, I got it to work every time at 3/10 of a mile. Bottom line, tricky but well worth it. Most people would likely not have as many issues to play with. In my case, once it was detecting the signal has to travel up hill, through the trees in a fairly hostile environment. Walking around with a walky talky up here gives you and idea of how much interference there is in my area. The ability to play with them on the unit is likely the only reason it works. Recommendation on setup if you buy one. MAKE SURE YOU USE A GOOD BATTERY AND IF IT DOES NOT WORK OUT OF THE BOX, GO GET ANOTHER ONE, PREFERABLY FROM A NEW PACK OR TESTED WITH A VOLT METER. 1) Try it in the house with unit 10 ft or so apart 2) Change the LED setting to ON 3) Mount the transmitter where you want it and verify with the unit open that the LED goes off when it should. (Change the settings to match the distance from the road to the unit, the book is pretty close on what it says for what each setting means in distance. Don't guess, measure it and it will be right.) 4) Once you know the LED goes off every time, change the jumper back to LED off and close up the unit. (No need to burn up the battery turning on the LED even if it does not take that much juice.) 5. If you have problems after that with the base unit announcing, start looking for a different frequency. Move both units up one frequency at a time and see if you get more constant results. If you still have problems, I would go to the third frequency and then try adjusting the sub-frequency and see if you can't get it to work every time without fail. Bottom line, great unit for the price but can be tricky to get it to match your terrain unless you live on level ground without a forest between the two units with a lot of radio frequency interference. I plan to buy at least one more transmitter, I have the first one set to catch anything coming up the drive. The second one will be to tell me if they come to my house, or turn off at the rental lower down the road. Also looking at the mobile unit to use when we are outside working to get the announcement and talk back to the base at the house. Half of our property just will not work for cell phone coverage and there our times it would be nice to call back to the house.

Excellent method to monitor your property
WHAT IS IN THE BOX Infrared sensor Alert system base WHAT IS NEEDED 6 AA Batteries INSTALLATION The default for the system is set for outdoors with the infrared light on and maximum detection distance. I don't want anyone to be alerted by the light so I disabled it. The settings use small jumpers to toggle the settings on and off. I simply nailed the unit to the tree, after installing the batteries and screwing in the antenna. Simply place it about 10 yards from where you want it, 3-4 feet above the ground. The alert system base just plugs right into the wall. There isn't a wall mount but the antenna is so long that makes it impractical. The antenna is the old telescoping type but has a bit of a wobble. My sensor is quite a long distance away, and the sensitivity is just fine for my purpose. I wish the alerts could be changed from the "Zone 1", "Zone 2", "Zone X", announcements. 5 sensors can be set up to use this system. SUMMARY Overall, I'm very pleased with the ease of set up, the functionality, and relatively reasonable cost for a system that is weatherproof. If you need some form of monitoring, such as for your yard, your driveway, sidewalk or storage shed, this system will work for you. I highly recommend it.

Good choice
I did a lot of research on all the available products in this price range and this one is by far the best. Simple research will show that. We couldn't fine the product locally, so we eventually selected this seller because of the Amazon backing and price. Our home is 650+' from the road at the end of a straight driveway. The driveway cuts through a 75' wide treeline opening up to 2 fields on either side of the driveway, then the main road. Installation was very simple. Literally took 45mins and that's only because I had to dig a post hole and cut the 4x4 post. Very easy setup. My transmitter "looks" right into the open field with the closest backing at 100'+. I did have to change the "line of site" from 30' to the highest detection setting which I think is 80'. Not too sure why because my post was strategically set at 30' from the farthest end of the detection zone... whatever though. Works now with no issues. Haven't made it through a winter yet, so performance there is still to be determined. Also am using Lithium batteries so no report there either. We were a bit concerned about the verbal "Alert Zone" messages and hesitated initially because of this, but honestly, its not bad at all and does the job very effectively. Volume is also not an issue... can't imagine it being any louder for general use. Some notes to the manufacturer... - the transmitter box needs to be better suited for a 4x4 post. As it is, the screws are dogeared into the post and could have caused a split if I wasn't careful. Moving the security tabs in .5" would fix this issue. I would also recommend an additional bottom security tab to further secure the box. - The birdhouse is cute and effective and very simple to assemble... actually had the kids help : ) I found mine, however, was not a secure fit to the transmitter... so combined with the transmitter only being secured by 2 top tabs, I'm afraid one good Nor'easter could tare it right off! - I agree with another reviewer that stated the antenna could use a facelift and be a rubberized model further helping it to blend into a backdrop as apposed to the, might as well be a neon green sign, silver antenna. - I also believe the base could benefit from a hardwire option in addition to outlet plug. I'm guessing that this is generally going to be an "always on" appliance that could easily be hardwired to an existing security system or as a stand alone wall mount system. Overall, I would recommend this product without haste. Hope this helps someone : )
