## Questions & Answers

**Q: I want to connect two or three antique handsets. One is a hand-cranked telephone I had adapted with a standard phone jack plug. I presume that is no trouble. But, can I use a rotary-dial phone to call out? Does this device require touch-tone signals to dial out?**
A: I've used it exclusively with 70 year old rotary phones.  Yes, you can place calls by dialing out on the rotary.  Incoming calls to my cell phone cause the loud old ringers to alert me too, as long as I have the Bluetooth switched on.

**Q: Do corded phones have to be directly plugged in to the XLINK, or can they be connected via a plug in extension?**
A: Any kind of good wiring (old 4 wire phone, or Cat 4 / 5) can be used.  I'm using mine to connect to multiple wired lines via the in-wall house wiring.  One of the wired lines is a traditional cordless phone that runs 4 cordless extensions from it.  Just be careful to remove the incoming network wiring at your legacy network interface box.  You can't have two feeds into your wired network.

**Q: Can recieve calls but can't call out, why?**
A: Could be a problem with software installed on the XLink. Software need to be updated at myxlink.com or you need to make a new pairing with the XLink. After upgrade you have to make a new bluetooth connection pairing with Xlink. Old connection must be deleted (forget) from your cell phone. See your cell phone manual how to proceed.

**Q: Cellphone needs to be close to the unit, right? Does an iPhone automatically see this unit and connect to it (rather than to a headset)?**
A: Yes, the cellphone needs to be close to the Xlink Gateway. When I return home I place my cellphone next to the Gateway. I discovered that if my cell phone is more than a dozen feet away from the Gateway, the home landline phones will ring, but when answered there is no audio. The cellphone has to be very close to the Gateway for the system to work. It is also important the landline telephones in your home have no connection to the telephone company system even if you have discontinued telephone company service. That telephone company connection can mess up your Gateway system.
