I noticed some people saying it's not a tension ring it is a yarn guide and that is true, but I bought it basically because i really loves the colors that it came in (pause for ridicule,lol) yes I know thats silly but it is what it is and I am who I am. I aslo am a creative thinker and figured I coukd figure out a way to use it as a tension ring. And I did. I gave this 4 stars, instead of fove because I deducted one satr for just how cheaply made they are. Meaning fgey could have charged WAYYY less than what they did even though these werent expensive, I have no doubt they only cost cents to make. I knew they were just plastic when buying them. But this isnt regular plastic how you would think they would be. This plastic is super thin, and especially on the ring piece that goes around your finger its flimsy and thin. This isnt just cheap plastic, its some level B rated plastic. lol. Despite this they do stay on my finger. Now for the real reason I posted this. I did manage to find a way to use it as a tension ring if you don't want to just use it as a yarn guide.It might seem a little tricky at 1st or annoying to set it up right but it's not all that bad. So I'm attaching pictures so you can see just what I mean, but if you open the flap and surrender your or an around 2 or 3 of the pigs and then snap the lid shut, it works perfectlyas a tension ring. I've been crocheting for years. Despite that I've never been able to find "my way" that I am comfortable with and use constantly when I crochet. I just haven't figured out a way to hold the arm with my fingers and also control tension. Doing it this way it's the 1st time it just went smoothly in loosely and I will I feel like this will be my go to to method for tension control. So because of that and I'm sorry that I was literally I've been crushing for years so I thought I'd share this just in case it could help somebody else. It may seem awkward to "set it up" to be used as a tension ring but it pnly took me two attempts to wing the way and close the flap. Try holding in in your non dominant hand between your thumb and first finger. And as you wind it around the number of pegs you want to yse, 2 or 3, hold the ends of the yarn after you wind around one peg and turn to go back around to the opposite direction. Wind around the next leg and hold the yarn under your thumb before you go back the other way...etc do this for however many wrap arounds you make. Shut the flap, and voila! I did have it snag the yarn going through twice while using it this way but I found it wasnt because of the yarn slipping and one of the pegs splitting the yarn, but instead due to being to close to the edge and catching on the open edge or under the "hinge" fold over piece on the other end. Its a super easy fix and again, only happened twice. You just fix the yarn, away from edges, then put a little more tension on the yarn going into the ring. So ..buly holding vetween to finger in front of the ring, or wrapping around one or two fingers before the ring. This will also keep it from slipping up off of any peg Im sure. Although, I've not had that happen. And in my opinion, it is totally worth this very small minor annoyance to FINALLY find "my way" to crochet. These would also work fantastic if I opted to use multiple yarns for a project. Highly recommend, especially with 4 in the pack as they are a little essy to lose so spares are always good to have.
