Clear and concise on main concepts, lacking in advanced topics
This is a very decent book for understanding the architecture and development model behind SAPUI5. It also explains concepts such as OData, and how SAPUI5 excels in interacting with OData-based services (although not much on how to actually create these backend servoces - these topics are for other books). What I personally found missing, is an in-depth explanation of the various SAPUI5 controls and how to use them. If you already know the basics of SAPUI5, but need more info on, say, how to work with Viz controls, or how to implement complex facet filters for such controls, this is not the book for you. Problem is, there doesn't seem to be any such book - at least not yet. Documentation on SCN - SAP's own developer community - is scarce and fragmented, as is the help pages of SAP itself. Still, if you're serious about SAPUI5 development, this book is a concentrated and well-written resource, for the topics it actually covers. As such, it's a must. We just need "part 2"....

Very well written and informative book (and, as usual, free ebook voucher included in the english version). Of course, there are no deep advanced topics, it's more like a step by step encyclopedia for programmers and not a cookbook for all thinkable situations. Deeper look on the topic with some best and worst practices, conventions, all LAMP, OData and developing guides for standard applications.

A good book, and if I had anything negative to say it would be that the examples sometimes use javascript for View, and sometimes XML, even though in the early part of the book it clearly says that SAP recommend using XML to control the view. I have therefore given it 4 stars instead of 5. The CRUD section could do with improving as not everyone wants a pop up Dialog view when editing tables controls, and sometimes all fields do fit neatly in the table, so having code to insert/delete would have been nice to have.

Just started this..people who are new to the SAPUI5 must not purchase this as this is for who have basic understanding of the SAPUI5.

It is very hard to follow if you don't have any experience with SAPUI5 coding. It took me hours and days to get the samples running in a HANA trial cloud. Yes you can be proud of yourself if you finally succeed. But the samples were sometimes very hard to follow. Concepts like DI, Binding, MVC, View Model and REST are not new to me, otherwise I think I had given up on page 70. Don't get me wrong, the content is great, but a chapter about setting up things and better organized samples would help a beginner tremendously. Volker from Solveig Roth Consulting
