Hamans Gas Refill Adapter for Butane Canister - Filling Adapter for Backpacking Camping Stove

This device allows you to refill an isobutane canister (threaded for backpacking stoves) from a cylinder (pressure activated tip). It works really well. I used it extensively in Chile and Argentina. In many places we could only find the cylinders because car camping was more popular in those areas. Even if we could find the canisters, they were often double the price of the cylinders. I would put the cylinder in the freezer for about an hour and then do the change, though I also did it without freezing it and I can't say I noticed much difference. It usually took about 10 minutes to finish. I was often able to get about 95% of the gas moved, though there was always a little left over. One tip is to periodically stop and then restart again. I think perhaps the diaphragm on the canister gets ice build up or something, I don't know, but it wouldn't sound like the gas was moving. I would take the cylinder off, try it again, and the gas would start moving again. The exchanger is very small, I kept it in my money pouch, and it has no moving parts, so nothing to break. Make sure to keep the cylinder as vertical as possible. If it tips a little to the side gas can leak out.
