It has been about 50 years since I last used a Rit dye. The liquid form (which I don't think existed in the 70s) is much easier to use than the powder. I had to increase the temperature of my hot water heater several times to produce water that approached the recommended 140 degrees F. The garment I dyed started out white. Now it is a rich "mustard green". This is not exactly the color I wanted but I mixed a couple of dye colors and not having read the directions thoroughly, the garment remained in the dye bath longer than it needed to. The result was darker than expected, but the color is even and saturated. Note the "before & after" photo.

I spent a small fortune on these dyes to dye a linen bedding set. It is so patchy and weak in colour. I had a plan to create an earthy tone bedding set. My main bedding was meant to come out a terracotta colour and everything just turned a dusky pink with splurges or brown. I tried over dying to correct and that didn’t work either. Such a waste of time, money and now I have a bedding set I can’t use. Back to Dylon.
