A Quiet, Slim Successor to the Original PS4
FOR THOSE WHO NEVER HAD A PLAYSTATION 4 I've been a playstation fan since the original PS2. Playstation is simply the best console for especially RPG's. This console is simply the best incarnation of the Playstation 4 so far. It's a super-quiet media center (Blu-rays, Netflix, Hulu, Plex). The PS4 is a big improvements from the PS3 in that multi-tasking actually exists. I can chat with my brothers in a party while watching a blu-ray or playing a game. Seriously, it's a wonderful system. FOR CURRENT ORIGINAL PLAYSTATION 4 OWNERS The rest of the review is for you, current PS4 owners. I sold my original PS4 for this. Do I regret it? Not in the slightest! My big beef with the PS4 was simply how loud it got. Playing games like the Last of Us put my old PS4 into some kind of dragon fire-breathing mode. It was so loud it permeated walls and kids running around outside questioned if a hurricane had attacked the neighborhood in a frantic rage. Haha that's a slight exaggeration, but it really was quite loud! ACOUSTICS Wow this thing is quiet. When I first turned it on I had to make sure it was on. I seriously can't even tell it's on while I'm doing media and other tasks. Gameplay depending on your game can be dead silent, or you can hear a slight whirr from the fan. I can play the Last of Us without apologizing to everyone in the house now! :) The blu-ray drive is also slightly quieter than *my* old PS4. I know such things vary per PS4. WIFI The Wifi is better (supports 5GHz wifi so transfer speeds can be faster) and I get higher throughput. I can actually use it for game streaming and remote play now! I previously has a poweline ethernet adapter because wi-fi would never cut it for me. DESIGN It's quite sleek. It's smaller than my super-slim PS3 I keep around (See Picture). The Matte finish is very nice. The previous glossy panel was always scratched up is gone, along with the massive bright console status light that always annoyed me (It's been reduced to a tiny light on the power button). The USB ports are also spaced further apart which is a nice touch. The optical output is gone, but I use HDMI CEC anyway so wasn't a miss for me. It's also soo much lighter! CONTROLLER The new DualShock 4 feels a bit more grippy than the prior one. The addition of the health/light bar window at the top is a really great addition.. I could never see that thing anyway while playing. GAMEPLAY Sorry, you won't notice any change in gameplay if you're coming from an older PS4. I notice some titles are a bit more fluid just because I felt sometimes the fans couldn't keep up with the heat of the system. SHOULD YOU WAIT FOR THE PS4 PRO? I have a 4k TV (43") and I chose this over the Pro. $100 more for a (likely) louder console that upscales some games to 4k without a 4k blu-ray player? Not worth it to me. All I wanted was peace and quiet and am perfectly pleased with the graphical quality of the current ps4 games. It seemed like Sony didn't really make the case for the extra investment for me. SHOULD I SELL MY OLD PS4 SYSTEM FOR THIS? I did, because quiet playing is important to me. If quiet playing is not a must have for you, it's probably not a worthwhile trade. The lack of the glossy panel that always got scratched and a sleeker design is also wonderful (some of the newer models don't have a glossy panel to get scratched). P.S. Uncharted is a Physical Game!!! The game that came with my last PS4 was a download code. Nothing bums you more than having to wait forever before you can play the game that comes with your system. Thanks Sony!

I like the Xbox better
I'm giving this fives stars because I think it's a decent system in spite of the things I don't like about it. Let me say up front, I bought an original Xbox just after graduating high school, then I bought a 360 when it came out, and for the past few years I've been using an Xbox one. I'm a little bit prejudiced. I was recently talked into buying this because my brother owns a playstation as well as a lot of people we know, which is easily what playstation has going for it the most, the fact that Sony has sold several times as many systems. If you're trying to decide between this and Xbox, you will get a lot more matches and have a lot more people you know playing this system. In the week I've owned this system, though, I've noticed two things that would have been a deal breaker for me if I knew about them a week ago when I bought this. First, there is a noticeable difference in performance. I've been in numerous occasions playing BF4 where more than six or seven players are on my screen at once and the picture started skipping, things started running slower, it was just obvious the processor is working as hard as it's able to work. In the year and a half I've played this game on Xbox one, that has never happened to me. If you need more evidence than that, The internet browser on Xbox one is blazing fast compared to the browser on Ps4. My other problem is the controller. This is a die hard Xbox fan talking, but the controller is just not very comfortable. My biggest problem is that the d pad is on the left side of the left stick, which means that playing bf4, you have to take you thumb off the left stick in order to switch to a gadget. With the Xbox controller, if I'm busy making my guy run with my left thumb, I can switch gadgets using my right thumb. The other thing I hate about the controller is that it has an internal batterry, so you have to plug it into the playstation in order to charge it, And in the past week I've had to charge the controller three times. Xbox controllers use 2 AA batteries. I bought four rechargeable AAs on amazon for $15 with the charger included, and a charge on two of them lasted about two weeks, at which point the other two batteries were charged and ready to go.. So, I think the Xbox is a better system. But, you may want to consider this if you have a lot of friends.

Excellent upgrade from the PS3 super slim
Excellent upgrade from the PS3 super slim. I love this system and the controller. The GUI is a little laggy at times but for the most part it's a pretty smooth experience. The messaging is also kinda slow too but I don't use it much. The console looks beautiful and runs quiet & cool. I love the blacked out logo in the middle and the sleek smooth design overall. The small light bar on the power button is perfect. The 2 USB ports are perfect. I use one USB port for my Turtle Beach headphones transmitter and the other to play music off a flash drive. There is no optical audio output so the solution is to use your TV's optical audio output, if it has one. Most modern TV's do but most monitors don't if you game on a monitor. I am using Turtle Beach stealth 400s with no issues. I can also use them for my PC, TV and movies too if I want without switching out cables because the audio is always coming from the TV. I also have a optical audio splitter that is connected to my TV's optical audio out that allows me to have my turtle beach headphones and my receiver connected to a single Optical audio output at the same time. I also added rubber feet to the 4 corners of the PS4 to raise it up a little for better airflow and it allows the optical cable to sneak underneath it from the TV and up into the Turtle Beach transmitter. I have an Official Sony DS4 charging cradle and a Power A cradle that plug into an AC outlet to charge my controllers. I bought an extra controller because the battery doesn't last very long, about 6 hours. The controllers are sooo nice though. Setup is a breeze. Making an account is easy and the price for PSN is reasonable. I have played Call of Duty MWR, Uncharted 4, Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry and NBA Playgrounds. All great games. I plan on expanding my library little by little. Just Pre-ordered COD WWII. PS4 only BETA starts 8/25/17 @ 1 p.m.!!! Highly recommend this console. Game on!

PS4 Over XB1! It's A No Brainer!!!
PS4 is the way to go. It is more powerful than the XB1. PS4 has better hardware. A lot of people who own a XB1 are in denial about this for whatever reason beyond me as before either console even came out the specs were released and everyone knew PS4 had better hardware. Microsoft used ESram while Sony used DDR3 so RIGHT THERE makes PS4 better and that's before even mentioning PS4 has a better CPU/GPU. What REALLY always makes me giggle is the fact that when both consoles came out, XB1 was $100 more because of kinect being forced on you but what makes me laugh is that people paid $100 more for the weaker console. PS4 being better isn't even a debate it's a reality. Numbers speak for themselves. Anyway, now that that's out of the way. PS4's interface is cleaner, and easier to navigate than XB1. The guy who lives downstairs has a XB1, and I always felt LOST navigating it. I build computers, and repair computers so it's not like I'm a noob at electronics. It's the simple fact that XB1's OS/Software is a MESS. Buy yourself a beautiful PS4, swap out the stock HDD with a 1TB Western Digital " BLACK " drive, and you'll be GOLDEN. Put the stock HDD inside your desktop as extra storage is which is what I did. Sure, I could have went with 2TB for my PS4 but the 2TB's are Seagate and Seagate has the highest failure rate so seriously, stay away from Seagate. I rather have 1TB over 2TB if it means having a reliable QUALITY HDD to store my data. I could honestly sit here all night telling you why you should buy a PS4 but there's no point. It's not hard to do a little research. It's not hard to see PS4 BLOWS away XB1 on every single level. XB1 is a good entertainment console but when it comes to gaming, PS4 is the way to go. Some may say well, well, well you're just a Sony Pony. Nah, if it was the other way around, I would own a XB1. I simply go into the store, and I buy the better product it's that simple. Playstation has ALWAYS been the superior console. Also, don't listen to those people who automatically bring up PC gaming when you're talking about consoles. Right off the bat those people are fools. They start saying how PC gaming is the best, and how a gaming computer is better than both consoles. Well, DUH. It's a direct computer. The hardware cam be changed out at any time all the time. PC Gaming will ALWAYS be better. You NEVER mention PC gaming when you're talking about consoles. They're two different worlds. Enjoy your brand new PS4 :)

Small but still the powerful game console you expect
Small but still the powerful PS4 in this boxed bundle. I always owned a PlaySation since the first PS1, then PS2, PS3 and now of course the PS4. I never owned a slim version though before. I always liked to go with the big old console which in my opinion looked like I was getting some good equipment for the money VS slim consoles that always felt like you pay the same price for less equipment. But that time this bundle set was a great deal, especially since the seller I found on the list of all people selling this set, was doing a "no tax ever" sale. The slim PS4 seems to work just fine as it should be, and its size is actually convenient to fit in tight places too. Since I still have my PS3, I have actually bought a stand which does the job nicely, having the PS3 under and new PS4 on the top of it: Allsop Metal Art Ergo 3 Adjustable Monitor Stand, TV / Laptop Riser, 3 Height Levels with Micro Leg Adjustments, Non-Skid, Holds 35 lbs (31630) The package arrived a bit damaged in shipping, but all seems to be alright though and the PS4 worked perfectly right out of the box. I have red some review on here that state that this device tend to over-heat and shut off or stop working at some point. So I am going to monitor mine for a while and may come back to edit this review in case something similar happens. But for the moment it works flawlessly. I did notice already that some part of the console were really hot after finishing to work on the initial setup, which lasted around an hour. That's one of the reason I wanted to have it set up on a metallic stand instead of plastic, so the heat can dissipate better. Haven't started playing the included game yet since I had to spend a a good hour on the initial console setup (this thing always take a while unfortunately but after it's done, there should not be any need to do it again). But at least I have tested the CD drive and it appears to take, read and eject the disk correctly so far. You have to also keep in mind that if you want to use any of the friends & social or shopping features of this PS4, you will need to create a Playstation network account. In case that could be useful for someone willing to buy that same bundle set, here is a list of what's included in the box: -PS4 console SLIM version (basic black) -1 X PS4 controller (black) -1 X game Uncharted 4 new sealed -1 X PS4 power cable (no transformer, just the cable itself to connect to the console) -1 X 1 mono headset in earbud form -1 X HDMI cable -1 X USB to micro USB cable (to connect/charge the controller) -User manual & warranty flyer

Good update, but may not be worth the money unless this is your first PS4
I own the launch PS4, PS4 Slim, PS4 Pro, and the Xbox One S. Personally I use the Xbox One S in my bedroom home theater. The PS4s are in the man cave and used mostly by my kids and friends. The reason I chose the Xbox One S for myself is I own a 4k TV, and the Xbox is 4k ready AND has a UHD Blu-Ray player. The PS4 iterations including the Pro do not have a UHD player, which is kind of baffling to me, as Sony pioneered that aspect with the PS3. Personally, I think they got a little cheap on these upgrades. Not to say they are not good, but come on Sony, what gives? If you owned one of the previous PS4s, the Slim is noticeably smaller and quieter when downloading games or playing games from the hard drive. When playing games from a disc, the drive noise is about the same as the older PS4 (also about the same as the Xbox One drive noise). In terms of heat, the PS4 Slim is considerably cooler to the touch than either of the previous versions. On heat dissipation and quietness, the slim is by far the best PS4 to date. The PS4 Slim also has some nice additions that the previous models do not. For one, the HDD is easier to replace in the slim. Simply remove a small l-shaped plastic strip from the back corner and you can access the drive. It takes a couple of minutes to replace the drive and update. Another nice touch is the see through light strip on the new PS4 Slim. I didn't think I would like this at all but after using the new controller it makes the once annoying light bar somewhat beneficial. My biggest complaint with the PS4 Slim is the 500GB drive. It is not nearly big enough to handle today's games, and will fill up rapidly with games and updates. A minimum of 1 TB is required, so I don't know why Sony was so cheap here either. For comparable prices to the PS4 Slim and the PS4 Pro, you can get an Xbox One S with 1 - 2 TB of hard drive space, and they also come with a bundled game (PS4 Pro has no game bundle.) On performance, the PS4 Slim is the same as all the other PS4s except the Pro version. They all play the same games and there is no difference in graphics, loading times, etc. The PS4 Pro does provide slightly faster loading times, but this is only noticeable if you had the original PS4. There are also slight improvements to graphics on non-4k displays with the PS4 Pro, but nothing earth shattering here. Conclusion: If you do not have a PS4 or a 4k TV, the PS4 Slim is a good way to jump into this console. It is the best version of the PS4 to date. If you already have a PS4, I do not feel that an upgrade to the Slim model makes that much of a difference. I personally would not spend the money to replace the original, as there really is not that much here other than the sleeker look. If you have a 4K TV or are buying one soon, and you are a die hard PS fan, then look into the PS4 Pro, as there are many upgrades to take advantage of, and the graphics are amazing. However, as I mentioned earlier, The hard drives on the new PS4s are too small. The PS4 Pro only comes with 1TB of space and has no game bundle. You can get an Xbox One S that is 4k ready with 1 - 2TB of space, a bundled game, improved ergonomic controller, and a UHD Blu-Ray player for the same price or less than the comparable PS4 models including the Pro. That is good marketing and great utility on the part of Microsoft. Xbox One S made it very simple to choose the new system, even if you had the old one, because the overall improvement to utility and graphics carries over to every new console. When you buy a 4k TV the Xbox One S is ready to go. Sony only seems to have confused the issue and muddied the waters when it comes to selecting a PS4 system. Sony's updates feel more like a cash grab on a system that may soon run its course, while Xbox One seems to be extending the value, utility, and life of its console. Don't get me wrong. I've been a PS guy for almost 2 decades, and I typically by Xbox at the end of the console's cycle. The PS4 is a great gaming system regardless of your version, but I just feel Xbox is doing a better job right now on utility and marketing. At this time, these console wars kind of feel like the battles between Sega and Nintendo when they were at the top of the market. Everyone knows what happened to them. You have to give your customers real utility and real tangible improvements to keep them excited. So far I'd say Xbox is doing that. Sony...not so much. We will see how this plays out when Microsoft releases the Scorpio in a year or two.

Stunner - PS4 Slim
I got my PS4 slim delivered before time (International shipment from US to India). I had been waiting for a slimmer version of PS4 from the day the original PS4 was available for purchase. Didn't like original models (both the shiny finger print top as well as the full matte finish)....I guess the hard edge parallelogram shape just didn't do it for me. Also the blue lightning strip on the front and top of the original PS4 felt to me way too childish....reminded me of the Xperia mobile phone from Sony Ericsson. The Slim PS4 got my attention due to it's reserved and composed design and stature.Sony imo did a fantastic job in rounding off the hard edges while maintaining a somewhat similar design. I guess for me it was love at first sight. The PS4 Pro had me thinking for a while (considering it's graphical oomph over the base PS4), but the higher price and confusing marketing succeeded in turning me away from it. Usually most of the tech companies push the consumer to the next higher priced product over the lower ones...but in this case Sony pushed me towards the lower one. All I wanted was a good 1080p performance...(4K be damned).....at present 4K is just way too expensive to be meaningful. Have been using the PS4 slim for a over a few months and I am madly in love with it. Beautiful looks, silent performance and a great controller. Somehow the 500 GB hdd does not seem like a big issue....(The latest firmware 4.50 includes support for external HDD...so the HDD space issue is solved.) I am absolutely loving 1) Uncharted 4 (STUNNING graphics, art style and story) 2) Nathan Drake Collection (amazingly good remasters of the 1st 3 games). 3) Journey/Flower and ABZU (STUNNING.......just STUNNING.) Now eagerly waiting for Sniper Elite - 4 & Horizon:Zero Dawn. I am really satisfied with this purchase.....ABSOLUTELY no buyers remorse.

Great price on an excellent gaming console and media center
I picked up the Playstation 4 slim with Uncharted bundle during a sale and managed to grab it for 213 bucks. The console itself has more than made up for the expense with enjoyment. While it has been out for a while, I decided to get this as I have enjoyed my years with the Playstation 3 and figured for the low price point that it was worth it to get the next gen console as there are quite a few games that have come out that I wanted to play on the system now that it has matured a bit and the lineup has developed quite a bit over what was on offer during release. With regards to the system itself, it is a snap to set up, and comes with all the cables and power cords that you need. Some systems out there don't come with everything right out of the box anymore, so you don't need to worry about needing to buy anything else to get started. I already had a Playstation network account, so I just input my information and everything was ready pretty much ready to go. Those without an account will need to do a little bit of setup, but it's not too difficult. After the system updates finished installing, I loaded up some games that I bought and downloads worked very well. You can play some games during the download process, so you can get up and running pretty quick if you go that route. The Playstation 4 works well with my HD television. The colors pop, the animations are smooth, and it's a pretty decent upgrade in every way from the Playstation 3. While it isn't as powerful as a newer computer that is specced for gaming, the performance and graphics work well for a console. I like the new Playstation 4 interface a lot more than the Playstation 3 interface, which always seemed a bit barebones and slightly confusing at times. Accessing the things that I used most often just seemed to work more intuitively on the 4, and I spent less time in menus. Updates and notifications work more smoothly to let you know what's going on in my opinion. Using the apps that come with the system works well also. If you have Netflix or something like that, you can run them through your Playstation just fine. The internet browser works, although using a control pad to type things out is slower than a keyboard. It is perfectly possible to use your Playstation 4 as a basic media center for your living room. Uncharted 4 is a nice bonus with the system. This review isn't really about the game itself, but you get a disk copy in its own box. The Playstation has a great catalogue of western and Japanese style games to pick from, so there is a pretty wide variety of things to get into. I've played things as varied as Modern shooters, JRPGs, sports games, adventure titles, and quite a few old school retro sytle games that I found on sale on the Playstation network. The system itself isn't region locked also. What this means is that you can play a game that is Japanese or European or whatever region in your American playstation, and vice versa. You can also set up multiple accounts in order to buy things from multiple "regional stores" on the Playstation network. This is a little more advanced than some users care about, but the options are there. If you find a cheap game in another country, it's no worry whether or not you can play it, or if another country's release has better content, you aren't out of luck. All said, for the price point, the Playstation 4 is a great console that can provide countless hours of entertainment through games and media. It's currently the system that I use the most for gaming and media out of all my other options. While it is getting late in its life cycle, I'd still recommend it if you're looking for a great way to play games. You can't go wrong here.
